I cannot tell you how much I love this tv show, but especially, this season. Dexter is so quirky. I got sucked in after the first 30 mins of the first episode. It's this dark, twisted, humour. You won't be disappointed with this 12 episode season.

Dexter is a clever, witty, incredibly well written and highly original program from the brilliant programmers at Showtime. The series first season is now available on DVD and well worth the purchase price . If you have a DVD collector on your gift giving list, this could be the well received gift you've been looking for. Dexter stars Michael C. Hall, formerly known for his critically acclaimed turn in Six Feet Under, as a Forensics Blood Splatter expert with the Miami Dade Police Department who also happens to spend his evenings as a serial killer. It may sound like a dark and morbid plot line but you soon learn in the first episode that there is a method to his madness and a reason for his dark side to emerge. The most compelling segments in the series happen in the form of flashbacks, moments in time that allow the viewer to recognize what Dexter really is, not entirely evil, not entirely normal, but somewhere in between and leaning further in one of those directions. I guarantee that you will find yourself rooting for the serial killer, something I bet you never thought you'd do. He is not your average Hannibal the Cannibal type monster but more of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a person who is brilliant in his given trade of blood splatter analysis, highly regarded by the majority of his law enforcement colleagues yet fully focused on what the night brings with it. He is an undercover killer who is following the "code" that his dad instilled in him prior to his death years before. Aside from the outstanding acting from Hall, the viewer also enjoys a supporting cast, which includes Jennifer Carpenter as younger sister and Police Officer Debra Morgan, C.S. Lee as fellow police consultant Vince Masuka and Julie Benz as dedicated, thoughtful girlfriend Rita Bennett. I thoroughly enjoy watching the scenes between Dexter and Rita because as he said in one of the first episodes of the series, she is as damaged as he is. This series is a highlight in an otherwise boring landscape of television programming. I don't think you would ever find a show like this on regular network television, leaving only HBO, Showtime and the like to produce high quality programming and only The Movie Network or DVD to get it to the Canadian viewers. The series description above might make it sound like a dark and gruesome series but in reality it has some very funny moments intertwined. The banter between Dexter and Sergeant Doakes, played by talented actor Erik King, leaves you glued to the screen, Doakes is a highly trained law enforcement professinal who works side by side with Dexter and somehow manages to do what no other colleagues have done, understand just how dark his co-worker actually is. It is always entertaining, always jam packed with first rate story line and just plain old fun to watch. If you haven't checked it out yet, Season 1 of Dexter is a sure bet.
Delightfully Dark and Dexter

Few american tv shows break the boundries in humour. But "Dexter" based on the Jeff Lindsay novels bring a dark and twisted spin on american humour. With 'Dexter' you're actually laughing and waiting in anticipation for the lead serial killer to strike next. Michael. C Hall plays a very different character than in his previos roles with the non-human like, sometimes naive character that is 'Dexter'. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thrill and giggle ;-)
Bloody good!
