Shakespeare has been done so many times that it's becoming increasingly hard to make his plays exceptional. This production of A Midsummer Night's Dream really stands apart from the crowd though, as it employs a superb cast that lends tremendous depth and emotion to the characters. Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfieffer, Calista Flockhart, Rupert Everett and then some all help make the love trapezoid as intricate as ever. The Shakespearean themes are brought back to life, taking on a substantial quality instead of the dated or dateless aura of some productions.

Two tales of espionage and murder set during the second World War; brought to you by the master of suspense -- Alfred Hitchcock. In "Bon Voyage" John Dougall, a British prisoner-of-war, manages to flee his Nazi captors. Together with fellow escapee Stefan Godowski, Dougall plans to contact the Resistance and take refuge in Free France. "Aventure Malgache" tells the story of Clarousse, a French lawyer who once fought for the Resistance. He escapes to London, where he becomes involved in producing a play based on his own life. Flashback to 1940, Madagascar: Clarousse and the other Resistance fighters struggle against the German-run Vichy government by helping people escape to join the Free French. But their enterprise falls apart after a woman, angry that her lover has left her to become part of the Resistance, turns informer. Clarousse is captured and tortured by his old nemesis, Michel. Will he be able to keep silent... or will he too give up his secrets to an evil, enemy government?

What could a simple Italian postman possibly have in common with the great poet Pablo Neruda? As it turns out, quite a lot. Mario (Massimo Troisi) leads a very uncomplicated existence, as do all the island townsfolk. But things take a turn for the interesting when exiled Chilean poet Neruda (Philippe Noiret) shows up. Mario agrees to be his regular postman after he notices how many letters Neruda gets daily, and almost all of them from women. Bit by bit, he works himself into the poet's confidence and the two strike up a gentle mentor-student kind of relationship. Neruda naturally teaches Mario about the power and beauty of poetry, especially when it comes to women, but is surprised to discover that he can learn much from Mario about graceful simplicity as well. Il Postino is a charming comic-romance that, in its soulful expression of honest emotions, manages also to be poignant and profound.
