Remastered 1996 versions include interview and behind-the-scenes footage. Academy Award Nominations: 9, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best (Original) Screenplay. Theatrical release: June 11, 1982. The film was shot north of Los Angeles in Northridge, California. E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL was selected to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL is number 25 on the American Film Institute's list of America's 100 Greatest Movies. Actress Debra Winger contributed to the voice of E.T. E.T. love for Reese's Pieces was a huge boost to the new product. The film is one of the top moneymakers of all time, taking in nearly $400 million at the domestic box office and more than $700 million worldwide.
