The 18 volume manga of Full Metal Alchemist has turned into a 51 episode anime. Even though Full Metal Alchemist is aimed for shonen or guys, it is still very interesting for girls to watch. I highly recommend everyone to watch this anime, because the story is so different from many others and the characters are very likable.

It is a fantasy that involves the supernatural and has some drama. The unique story starts slow, but watch the first 3 episodes to see how you like it, which I am sure you will since its such a popular show among many.

Full Metal Alchemist revolves around 2 main characters: Edward Elric (Ed) and Alphonse Elric (Al). They are brothers; Edward is the older brother and they have an age difference of a year.

The plot is set in the early 20th century in a country called Amestris, where people can use the science of alchemy, which is to perform the transmutation of matter into a different form of the same matter (equivalent exchange). And to use alchemy, one must draw transmutation circles.

Edward and Alphonse Elric live in the village of Resembool in the country of Amestris. Their father Hohenheim left home when Edward and Alphonse were very young that they cannot even recall their father. Years later, their mother, Trisha Elric, died of a terminal illness.

After their mother's death, Edward becomes determined to bring her back to life through the use of alchemy, which is forbidden. However, this failed attempt, results in the loss of Edward's left leg and Alphonse's entire body. In a desperate effort to save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm to affix his brother's soul to a suit of armor. After that, Edward's left leg and right arm were fitted with two sets of automail, a type of advanced prosthetic limb.

Edward's only mission now is to find the Philospher's Stone to restore his only family member, Alphonse, to his original body. Alphonse's mission is to restore Edward's right arm and left leg to what they once were.

What is the secret behind the Philosopher's stone? Will Alphonse ever be human again? Will Edward and Alphonse's missions be a success? What will they do to accomplish their mission? What problems will the Elric brothers encounter on the way?

This series is one of the best that I've ever seen. There's a nice combination of comedy, angst and action and a whole variety of characters. The voice actors are awesome and the animation is to die for! Edward and Alphonse can really make you laugh, cry and give a big, loud fangirl squeal all in one episode. You should definetly try this series out!
