While there is a word of caution regarding the way we test and push (and sometimes plunder) the earth's resources, "The Human Planet" is ultimately a celebration of humanity - this is a showcase of ingenuity, adaptability, spirit, community, and resourcefulness. It is well-written (and narrated by John Hurt) and beautifully shot. Deepening the appreciation of the imagery is the "Behind the Lens" segment featured at the end of each episode which presents the challenges and the solutions to filming these incredible stories. It is moving to watch - I found myself delighted, joyed, tense, horrified, and thrilled. Like the "Planet Earth" series, each episode focuses on an environment: Oceans, Deserts, Arctic, Jungles, Mountains, Grasslands, Rivers, and Cities. "The Human Planet" is a wonderful achievement.
