This film adaptation of Jane Eyre was brilliantly written and acted out! The story is true enough to the story and right from the beginning you are drawn into Jane Eyre's world. Toby Stephens acting as Mr. Edward Fairfax Rochester was an exquisite choice! He gives the character of Mr. Rochester a divine darkness! Also Ruth Wilson as Jane Eyre was another good choice. She gives Jane that silent, awkwardness that Jane has as well beauty, not the typical kind mind you.

I read Jane Eyre, and was looking for a good movie version of this book. I found a couple of sites that reccomended this movie and I have to say I completely agree. I was drawn into the movie from the start, and was quite happy with how closely the movie stayed true to the book. Alot of the time movies are either completely different, cut out important scenes or are just plain boring but this one was totally different. While it did cut out alot of her younger years, it still managed to get the same ideas across, and it is well worth the watch. It has something in it for bronte fans and romance lovers alike.

I have been intrigued by all versions of this incredible story. I love that we get to see on screeen a love story with added tenderness, and not strictly from the books writing. Every actor and actress always seems to bring something I love to their part, and this wonderful pair were the best yet. Toby Stephens is a gem.

I loved the Timothy Dalton/Zelah Clarke version because of it's faithfulness to the book. However, you can feel the intense chemistry between actors Wilson and Stephens in this portrayal. Superb acting by both.The book was chopped quite a bit with many sultry converstions between the two main characters omitted, but it holds the spirit on the novel. Finally, a version to be proud of after the two movies that disappointed after Dalton/Clarke. Kudos to the casting choices!

Before I give my opinion, I want to say two things: 1. I have read a lot of reviews on the web about this adaptation of the classic Charlotte Bronte novel and there seem to be two main schools of thought: it's either the best ever or it sucks and messed with the book too much. 2. I want to also say that I'm a purist and I don't like it when people (screenwriters) monkey with a book. Having said both of those things, I still like and recommend this version. Yes, there’s more blatant sexuality in this version than the book overtly describes (although much is implied). Yes, the words they say are not quite the same as in the book. Yes, Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson are not exactly as I pictured Jane and Rochester. Neither, however are Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke from the 1983 version nor are Sorcha Cusack or Michael Jayston from the 1973 version (although in the 1973 version they are very close and this is still my personal favourite). Neither for that matter has any adaptation gotten those two people exactly as I saw them. Neither has the writing exactly matched the book. How can it? The book is almost entirely conversation, at least a first person narrative. Now, I love this book. I love the language. The banter and design of how these two characters speak to each other is beautiful, rich – so much so that some lines make me weep openly. And whenever I love a book and hear it’s going to film, I always approach the news with trepidation and speculation. But this version is good. The words aren’t exactly the same. The language has been smoothed over. It’s more sexual. Some scenes I loved from the book have been chopped a bit and left wanting. Some scenes were added that I didn’t quite think needed to be. But overall, I cared about the characters and without narration it’s hard for actors to get every feeling across and Stephens and Wilson get most of the feelings across. I also defend the sexual nature of some of the scenes – even those with Stephens and Wilson because they tell us what these characters are feeling for each other mentally and physically and it sets us up for understanding the passionate, sensuous nature of their relationship. My only criticism of the DVD is there are no special features. That would have been a nice bonus. I will not give this 100%, but neither will I trash it.

This has got to be one of the best adaptations I have ever seen. The actors are superb, the script is true to the novel, everything's just perfect.

So so so good. Although I had always loved the version with Samantha Morton as Jane, nothing has done justice to Charlotte's novel till now. The chemistry between Toby and Ruth i give a 10 10 10. Every character was done to a T and seemed to jump right from the page of the book. The first time I watched this was with my sister and part way through we checked to see how much time was left and whispered in excitement "aaaa still a whole hour left!!!", it's just that good. If you loved the book to pieces you may as well just get this because you won't be disappointed, i just ordered mine on DVD and can't wait for it to get here!

I loved this version of the Charlotte Bronte tale, "Jane Eyre." The chemistry between Toby Stephens (Mr. Rochester) and Ruth Wilson (Jane) is just fantastic and almost palpable. The ending is a bit rushed but overall I would highly recommend this movie.
