Labyrinth

Director: Jim Henson

Columbia TriStar Home Video | October 21, 2003 | DVD

Sarah is one frustrated older sister when she asks the goblins from her favourite book to take her little baby stepbrother away. She didn't actually expect him to disappear, but, as the old saying goes, "Be careful what you wish for ... it might just come true." Now Sarah must find him by immersing herself into the labyrinth of her book, where it seems there is no way out and all roads lead in circles. What's worse is that the wicked Goblin King (David Bowie) is antagonizing her search every step of the way. Add to this a host of Jim Henson's creatures and Labyrinth becomes a fantastically imaginative and adventurous movie that all ages can appreciate - and the superior image and sound quality of DVD technology lets you experience Terry Jones' magical maze in all its weird glory.

It's a film you can see over and over. Great for all ages. It's important to have more than one copy-because if you lend it out...odds are you're not getting it back.

I was so excited to find this. This was like the best movie I've ever seen, it's stayed with me for all these years. I saw it not long after it was originally released on home video. I loved it. Go see it and you'll be hooked!

Feel good Muppet-like kids fantasy movie. The main character, Sarah becomes an older sister in a stepfamily situation. Bored with this new responsibility she pleads with her fantasy world companions to take her baby brother away. The goblin king, played well by David Bowie, promptly grants her wish, whisking the child away to the Labyrinths' end. Sarah is then challenged to rescue her baby brother before time runs out. My nephews and neices loved this video, especially the bog of eternal stench . A great movie to just loose yourself in for a couple of hours to escape.

Synopsis

This modern-day fairy tale examines a girl's coming-of-age after her terrible wish comes true...and she is forced to set matters right again. Fifteen-year-old Sarah is so resentful of her baby brother Toby that she hopes he will just disappear. Her dream becomes reality when goblins kidnap the boy -- but Sarah unexpectedly finds herself horrified by the loss. So she sets forth to retrieve him, and finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime. To accomplish her task, she will somehow have to reach the center of the fantastical labyrinth where the wicked Goblin King has imprisoned the lad. But the task is easier said than done, for the maze is filled with strange creatures and mind-bending puzzles that confuse the girl. Sarah's voyage will teach her about life, love, and responsibility -- but most importantly, about herself.
