How do you know when a television executive is lying?
His lips move.
Made in Canada is a satirical look down the corridors and into the offices of Pyramid productions, a fictional, publicly traded entertainment company. Rick Mercer (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Talking to Americans) stars as Richard Strong, a lowly script reader whose grasp of Machiavelli's principles is princely.
Richard and his army of power-hungry corporate climbers led by Alan Roy, the charismatic, womanizing CEO (Peter Keleghan), his ambitious side kick Veronica Miller (Leah Pinsent) and corporate weasel Victor Sela (Dan Lett) conspire to devise schemes and outwit their enemies at every turn. The series reveals an unforgiving yet witty exposé of the dog-eat-dog film and television business while poking fun at the chaotic world of office politics.
Episode 1: Pawn to King Four
At Pyramid Productions, the champagne is flowing -- the network has just ordered another 20 episodes of "The Sword of Damacles." But Richard won't be happy until his fortunes change.
Episode 2: Dining Out
President Alan Roy plans to reorganize Pyramid Productions putting Victor Sela in charge of both Film and Television Departments. This is not good news for new Head of TelevisionRichard Strong or new Senior Production Advisor Veronica Miller. Office politics makes very starnge bedfellows.
Episode 3: A Death in the Family
Walter Franklin, star of Pyramid's hit family series "Beaver Creek" dies. The company's stock plummets. It's the perfect opportunity for Richard to sink to his creative, Machiavellian depths.
Episode 4: Second in Command
Richard is put in charge of an undercover cop show ordered by an American network. The done deal is going soft. Richard has two challenges: fix the problem; punish the guilty.
Episode 5: The Mill Show
Company President Alan Roy dispatches his secretary Wanda to Buffalo to buy a new, not-yet-available-in-Canada drug. Richard is yanked from the U.S. network cop series and saddled with a "mill show."
Episode 6: And the Winner Is...
Awards night. Who cares? Everybody. Pyramid President Alan Roy is to receive a lifetime achievement award. But tuxedos and sequins do not guarantee a good time. The dismissed Raymond returns to the company with a series idea, a good series idea. Tides are turning at Pyramid Productions.
