Seven

Starring: Brad Pitt
Director: David Fincher

New Line Home Video | August 22, 1997 | DVD

If you like truly dark and horrifying psychological thrillers, then the brilliantly filmed and wonderfully acted Seven is a movie you will cherish. Brad Pitt and Mogan Freeman star as two cops tracking down a completely twisted but terrifyingly articulate serial killer, who uses the Biblical Seven Deadly sins as motivation for murder. Preying on the gluttony, greed, sloth and vanity of the city's populace, the madman leaves a trail of sickening corpses behind him. Pitt's character is young and impulsive, while Freeman is brilliant as the methodical and wise veteran and their two styles clash effectively. The wonderfully noirish feel of the movie makes it a suspenseful classic.

Bone Chilling in a Good Way

This movie is creepy, bone chilling, but in a good way. You are waiting for that scene that's going to make you jump, or that going to make it so you can't sleep at night, but it never comes. It keeps you into to movie, and makes it so you can't look away. This is a not a scary movie, and it really isn't that gory, but they make it so you half to imagine what happened, and that is probably worse than if they actually showed you the blood and guts. Brad Pitt gave his best performance at the time in the movie. This movie really pushed his career into super stardom. Morgan Freeman was and is as good as always. I don't think I have given a performance by him a bad grade yet. Kevin Spacey almost steals the show as John Doe. He is creepy beyond belief. David Fincher is quickly becoming one of my favourite directors. With Fight Club, Zodiac and now Se7en directed by him, I will have to watch all of his movies now. Every single movie I have seen that he has directed has gotten 5 out of 5 stars. Great movie

Description

In this bleak and gruesome thriller, an idealistic young cop who still believes in justice and his grizzled, burnt-out partner track down a serial killer whose ghastly crimes symbolize the seven deadly sins. Academy Award Nomination: Best Film Editing.

Synopsis

Gluttony. Greed. Sloth. Pride. Lust. Envy. Wrath. These are the seven deadly sins, and a brilliant, patient, but immensely disturbed serial killer is slaying his victims in ways that illustrate each one (for example, "gluttony" involves an obese man who is bound and forced to eat spaghetti until he nearly explodes). Two detectives, brash, emotional rookie David Mills, and seen-it-all, methodical William Somerset, attempt to solve the grisly, elaborate murders. But after five killings, "John Doe" suddenly turns himself in. However two sins remain unillustrated, and though he's in custody, Doe has concocted a detailed scheme to complete his demented masterpiece -- one that will affect the two detectives for the rest of their lives.
