    From rags to riches..$$

The story is about a boy who was born and raised in slums and how he manages to win 1 Million Dollars by answering all the questions correctly on popular television game show. How his life experiences helped him to answer all the questions correctly on game show. Also, music from A.R Rahman was outstanding. Story line was excellent with proper direction. However, I think some dark sides shown in the movie were over-exaggerated. Overall, movie is a perfect mix of drama, action, emotions and songs. No wonder this movie won Oscar Award in 2008.

Slumdog Millionaire is a movie which follows the character Jamal, a contestant on an Indian version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”. The narrative cuts between past and present, displaying many emotions such as greed, love, hate, and forgiveness. The special effects of the movie felt realistic and the acting was sensational. This movie provided action, which I enjoyed, and kept me entertained throughout the whole movie. Additionally, the movie has a memorable soundtrack, mixing contemporary pop music with Indian influences. It includes strong songs such as “Jai Ho”, the song played during the credits of the film.

Usually I don't agree with what the Oscars pick for best picture, but this is one I wholehearedly agree with! It has such depth! While one that will definitely have you twisted inside at times throughout the movie, it is one that will stay with you and the music will easily play in your head long after. Stunning!

Slumdog Millionaire is a beautiful story of Jamal Malik's road to fortune. After answering all the correct answers on the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Jamal is arrested. He is accused of cheating when people know that he is a slumdog, and could not possibly have answered those questions unless he was a genius. Every question in the game takes us back to Jamal's memories of what occured for him to know all the answers. And the millionaire dollar question is what really amazes the audience the most, because it's something so obvious, yet, you wouldn't have expected it. A wonderful movie.

Slumdog Millionaire is the story of Jamal Malik (Patel), an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India¹s "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika (Pinto), the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show¹s questions. Each chapter of Jamal¹s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show¹s seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out.

A story set in the heart of Mumbai involving Jamal and Salim who are brothers and an orphaned girl named Latika. The bond between Jamal and Latika is innocent in childhood yet the desire grows intensely as they age and Jamal makes it his quest to find her each and every time she slips out of his grasp. With him and his brother leading two different lives, Jamal takes a chance to escape a life filled with poverty and violence by being on the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. However, the consequences of his vast knowledge are questioned when he is accused of cheating and ends up being tortured. During the interrogation, his personal journey is explored and all the painful flashbacks soon reveal that he'd risk it all for his lifeline. I'll also add that the soundtrack for this movie deserves high recognition since some tracks are celebratory of Indian culture and also incorporates other styles of music with energy, spirit and passion.
