A very good movie although the quality of the video itself left a bit to be desired. A lot of glitches as if it had been copied off a computer download---I expected more from a purchased DVD.

Ever since Marvel came out with the first Iron Man movie I have been looking forward to the Avengers movie that was hinted at in the behind the credits scene. Like many others I was skeptical they could pull off a movie that was combining major characters/actors from 4 other major studio films. However they did it. This movie is everything it lived up to be. They had the action, they had the comedy and they had the emotion. It all just worked. I think the thing I liked about it most, was that it did not take itself too seriously. They had moments where you were free to laugh out loud cause they are meant to be funny. Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man of course bringing his sarcastic fun, but the Hulk is also a source for many laughs. Mark Ruffalo comes in as a newbie to play Bruce Banner, and does a great job at it. I was a fan of Edward Norton's Hulk, but Ruffalo is equal if not better than Norton. Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans come back as Thor and Captain America respectively. Evans in particular was good in this movie. Scarlet Johannson, Clark Gregg and Samuel L. Jackson are brought back as the coordinators of The Avengers, and the addition of Jeremy Renner is very welcome. I think a lot of credit for making this movie work is the work from director/writier Joss Whedon who made the tone of the movie the way it is. Overall, this is what a summer blockbuster should be, a movie to be enjoyed by the masses.
