The film, “The Help”, is based off the novel of the same name by Kathryn Stockett. The film depicts the lives of African-Americans in Jackson, Mississippi, and how they were forced to live in the 1960’s. Struggles with racism have always been known, however this movie shows us just how terrible it really was. After watching this powerful movie, one can understand how shockingly African-Americans were treated and just how difficult it was for them. As the movie progresses you start to connect with the characters and feel their joy and pain. Thanks to incredible actors and a fantastic plot, this simple story gets turned into a brilliantly, captivating film.

The help is one of the movies that makes you laugh then makes you cry. Very entertaining with brilliant cast and an amazing production. I'm glad the film has made it to the Oscars with three nominations and won an Oscar for best supporting actress. I thought the film deserved more. The film cinematography is what attracted me the most and the well written story made me feel engaged to the experience of the civil right era. Best film ever

    Fantastic Show

After watching the Academy awards 2 Sundays ago, I decided that this movie was a must see. I watched it with my mom and brother and sister-in-law who were watching it for the second time in two weeks.
The overall story of the movie was fantastic, there were lots of plot lines to follow and remember, however it was easy to keep track. The acting in it was very much worthy of the publicity it received at the award shows.
The movies showed some evident issues that occurred years ago. As a result it made me think that sometimes society gets caught up in the problems and issues of today, and we make them seem like they are the worst thing that could happen. In reality when you get a glimpse of issues in the past as this movie so clearly touched on, they help us realized that what is happening now really isn't the end of the world. The movie also helps us to realize how much our civilization has changed and progressed.
Overall a great movie, a little long, but worthy of watching! And I will definitely be reading the book next!

I found the book an enjoyable read, but did not feel it was worthy of all the hype. The characters were very well developed, however, the plot just didn't keep me as engaged as I had hoped it would until the last couple of chapters.
