The Ides of March

There is not one bad thing you can say about this movie. This is a movie that feature outstanding acting, an inspired story, great direction and a screenplay that carries its load. Lets start with the acting. Ryan Gosling is the best actor to come out of Hollywood in a long time. He does not change at all here. He gives a performance that is inspiring, starting out a a innocent hot shot and ending as a cold political veteran. His characters transformation from start to finish is amazing. George Clooney and Paul Giamatti give two of the best supporting actor performances of the year. Clooney is outstanding as the charismatic presidential candidate, but when the serious scenes come up, he steals the show showing his mean streak. And Paul Giamatti is the manipulator, playing with Goslings character from their first meeting to the last. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is good just like he always is. Marisa Tomei is by no means bad, but she is nothing spectacular here. She is the low end of the acting stick, but that is not saying much considering how strong the rest of the cast is. Evan Rachel Wood gives a really inspired performance here. She is surronded by Hollywood heavy weights, and its looks like it dosen't phase her in the least bit, a great performance. Now the direction. Every movie George Clooney has done gets better. His latest effort just proves this trend. By far his best directed film, I can't wait to watch his next. What make sit even more impresses, is not only did he direct and star, he also contributed to the Screenplay. Overall this is defintly one of the best movies i have seen in 2011, a defiant Oscar candidate.
