The Republic of Love

Starring: Kate Lynch
Director: Deepa Mehta

Paradox Entertainment | January 8, 2008 | DVD

Tom is a charismatic late-night radio talk show host whose unconventional upbringing has made him a little too quick to fall in love and marry. Fay is an academic whose expectations are impossibly high as a result of the living perfection that is her parents' marriage.

This unlikely pairing proves the rule that, in love, there are no rules. They meet, they fall in love. But a series of events puts strain on their ties to each other and they are thrown into turmoil.

The characters connect in a maze of mall, condos and family homes, underpinning the idea that 'geography is destiny' and that each of us has our own 'republic', where lives intersect.

THE REPUBLIC OF LOVE is a warm story of love and enchantment set in the coldest of winters and explores the issues, dilemmas and barriers facing the lucky and unlucky in love in the 21st Century.

    Wonderful Movie

This movie was wonderful. It stays close to the marvelous novel written by Carol Shields. It was filmed in Toronto and the performances by both the Canadian and British actors were excellent. Impressive performance by Jackie Burroughs (Road to Avonlea).
