The movie starts off with alot of promise. It had a good mix of fight scenes and mushy gushy scenes. I think director Wolfgang Peterson tried to please to many people at the same time, there were times, as a guy, when I thought I was watching a chick flick, but than the amazing battle scenes come and well, it kept me from shutting it off. The performances by Brad Pitt and Eric Bana and great in this movie. Pitt was perfect for the role os Achillies. Orlando Bloom did an okay job, but for some reason, his character bugged me. Wolfgang Peterson did a great job with the fight scenes. They are aww inspiring. But like I said earlier he tried to hard to please everybody in this movie. I get there had to be a love story in it, but he took it way to far. Overall it was a okay movie, just parts of it I could live without.

Inspired by Homer's The Iliad, Troy is a memorable, action-filled film with some romance. Born in Emden, German, director Wolfgang Petersen shot the one hundred seventy five million dollar production in the heat of Mexico, and Malta.

Achilles (Brad Pitt) fights only for himself, and holds no allegiance to the Greek King Agamemnon (Brian Cox) or to any king, because he desires to keep his title as 'the greatest warrior that ever lived'.

King Agamemnon, who is known as 'the King of Kings', constructs an immense empire by conquering one country after another with assistance from Achilles.

While visiting Sparta on a peace mission, Paris (Orlando Bloom), the prince of Troy, falls in love with the Queen of Sparta, Helen (Diane Kruger). Paris decides to take Helen with him to Troy, because he cannot stand to see her suffering with her husband, who she does not love.

The King of Sparta, Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), wants revenge on Troy for having lost his wife, Helen, to Paris. With damaged pride, Menelaus asks his brother, King Agamemnon, to go to war with him. King Agamemnon happily agrees because he desires to acquire the city of Troy.

Achilles is given a difficult decision to make by his mother, Thetis (Julie Christie). He can either not go to war in Troy, find a wonderful woman to marry, have children, but his name will be forgotten. Alternatively, if he goes to Troy, stories will be written about his victory for thousands of years, but he will never come back home.

I especially enjoyed watching Troy because of the many exciting action scenes. I find that there is more action and excitement when I watch sword fighting, rather than watching guns firing.

The movie Troy relates back to William Shakespeare's King Lear, because of the theme of greediness that is displayed. In Troy, King Agamemnon is ravenous for power, thus he feigns that he cares about his brother, Menelaus. He tells Menelaus that he will dispatch his troops to Troy to assist Menelaus in getting his lovely wife back. In reality, Agamemnon is only willing to help Menelaus because he desires to start a battle with Troy, so that he can obtain more land. In King Lear, Goneril and Regan are hungry for power, wealth, and land. Thus, they feign that they love their father, King Lear, who has a great amount of power, wealth, and land. King Lear is deceived, and believes that Goneril and Regan truly love him, so he hands over half his kingdom to each of them.

I recommend Troy to everyone over the age sixteen, because I am sure that everyone will enjoy it.
