There aren't many live-action features filmed this well. The cinematography is (pardon the pun) out of this world. I've read in my nerdy film/video magazines time & again about the techniques used to get such a look, and I was in no way disappointed. Beautiful use of depth-of-field and atmosphere.
I also very genuinely enjoyed the movie. Never since Gromit from "Wallace & Gromit" fame have I seen a character I can connect with emotionally with few/no words spoken. (Obviously, Pixar shined in this arena with the flagship character the hopping desk lamp.) Each of the robots had great personalities and charm. Moreover, it was funny! At every turn there was something to give a chuckle. This was, without a doubt, mainly attributed to the personalities and quirks of the various characters in addition to the creators' wonderful sense of timing.
All in all, Pixar does it again. They produced a fine film that pushes the limits of technology while embracing lovable, well-developed characters. Excuse me for a moment while I watch it again!
