Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Faeries and Heartbreak Abound Maggie Stiefvater has once again produced a novel that will make your heart ache. Ballad is one novel that twists the tides on a typical series, and gives it's audience a whole new perspective. Maggie has chosen her sequel to feature the one character many people were rooting for, the dejected love of the first book. Maggie's books are always intriguing and are sure to satisfy the churning relationships of teenage romance, but after reading some of her other books I found Ballad to be almost a little too predictable, if you love an easy novel filled with things that go bump in the night, teenage discovery and romance however you will definitely enjoy Ballad. James Morgan has been through it all, deadly accidents, dark encounters and worst of all rejected love. After confessing his true feelings to his best friend Deirdre who has fallen for a fairy, James has now chosen to follow her away from home to the musical academy that specializes with kids that seem to have a little something extra. It is here struggling to come to terms with his own feelings and with the changing relationship between him and Deirdre that he encounters Nuala. Nuala, another of the fey can offer James an extra push creatively but in return he must trade his life- one that he came within inches of losing before. Fully knowing the dangers of interacting with "The Good Neighbors" James, declines the offer but can't seem to separate himself from their world, he hears mysterious songs in the night and finds Nuala appearing at every turn. Slowly James realizes that escaping the world of the fey may be harder than he imagine, even now that his relationship with Deirdre is uncertain. As times pass James must make a choice that will end in heartbreak no matter how he chooses. In this haunting tale, James must risk it all for the ones he loves and decide once and for all what he feels in his heart.
