Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loveee I was lucky enough to actually pick up this series when the first three books were already published and fell in love with the fast paced adventures with Clary and Jace. Now I find as I’m reading the most recent books, it has lost its sparkle. That feeling of wanting to know what happens next because of the twists and turns wasn’t apparent in City of Lost Souls and I wonder why. It was incredibly boring in the beginning. A lot of useless scenes were filled with talk dialogue and intense making out and then some. Sure I don’t mind the play by play but the plot development was lacking in the beginning . It took a long time for something to happen and I felt so bored. Don’t get me wrong though. I’m not trashing the entire novel. Just the lack of pacing in the beginning. I always want to know if the story is moving along and this book babbled along for soooo many pages. I did enjoy the impending fate of Jace and his foray into the “dark side.” it made it a lot more interesting having someone you love be so damn evil. Clary, bless her, she didn’t let anyone or anything get in her way to save him and I love that about her. Putting yourself in danger at the hands of your sadistic evil brother sure wasn’t easy. She pulled it off of course. I like that she’s a lot stronger and faster than before. As for the other characters, I always welcome Simon because he was always such a friendly and likeable character who I turned to or humor relief. As well as Magnus Bane who is not short of humor either. Alex and Isabelle, and Maia and Jordan tie in the cast rather beautifully and I can’t help but love how they all support one another. Now for Sebastian also known as Jonathan, he was just as conniving and ruthless as I thought he could be. Maybe more so in this book. He takes the award for being the douchebag in this entire series. (Sorry for my offensive word, but I can’t help but point out the obvious). As always I can’t wait for the next novel. Especially when Cassandra Clare is having a new series about the Shadow Hunters too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Series I got the first three books as a set for Christmas and I was hooked. It is a 'teen' type of book but the read is better than twilight. The romantic aspect is just enough and not overpowering to the supernatural-filled action. This book as a stand-alone from the series is a notably slower build than the first 4 which kept me on edge, but once it picked up it, it picked up. What I liked about this book and which is consistent with the previous instalments is that they end so well on a definite cliff hanger which leaves you with so many exciting possibilities, and worries. The characters are very eclectic. Overall another instalment that never failed to have amazed me. (Currently on the sixth for which I am taking my time with!)
