From the Publisher
Alex and Ted Barris have been covering the Canadian arts scene as journalists and broadcasters for several decades. In that time, they’ve interviewed some of the biggest stars on the Canadian music scene, not to mention sitting in on jam sessions, going backstage at concerts and traveling on the tour bus -- all in pursuit of bringing their audience a little closer to the artist. That pursuit has now culminated in one of the great Canadian gift books of the season: Making Music.
Making Music offers more than 125 profiles of top contemporary Canadian music makers in every genre of music, from classical to jazz, opera to big band, folk to rock, and country to punk. These are much more than biographies: each profile reflects the Barris’s insider status in the Canadian musical community, with fascinating commentary, anecdotes and insights into the achievements, struggles and personality of each artist. The profiles include:
• Susan Aglukark • Long John Baldry • Wilf Carter • Robert Charlebois • Trump Davidson • Downchild Blues Band • The Happy Gang • Ofra Harnoy • Diana Krall • Gordon Lightfoot • Oscar Peterson • Neil Young
Beautifully designed and packed with photos of the artists, Making Music is a book that’s fun to browse through, and terrifically entertaining to read cover to cover
