E. John Bullard
has been Director of the New Orleans Museum of Art since 1973. Prior to this, he served at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., first as a Museum Curator, then as Assistant to the Director, and finally as Curator of Special Projects. While at the National Gallery, Mr. Bullard organized several major exhibitions, including the 1970 exhibition of Mary Cassatt, on which this book is substantially based. Mr. Bullard received his undergraduate and Master’s degrees in art history from the University of California, Los Angeles. Before coming to Washington, he served as an Assistant Curator at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu, California. Mr. Bullard is the author of two other books: Edgar Degas
and John Sloan 1871-1951.
He also writes articles for such magazines as American Artist
and the Smithsonian Magazine.
