Rated out of 5 by from The height of wit and tenderness This delightful novel is set in a religious household in England, and told through the eyes of a young girl who is different. Exploring her world, her family (most especially her radically religious Pentecostal mother) and her slowly blossoming understanding of love, 'Oranges are Not the Only Fruit' is an absolute joy to read. There is real wit to this novel, an intelligent humour that can, at the same time, be tender, courageous, and funny. The story itself echoes, and has not at all lost anything to the passage of time. Give it a chance; you won't be disappointed.
