Reviews

Rated out of 5 by from Almost perfect The first book of monsters for the Pathfinder RPG, this volume is easy to read, with great artwork and concise stat blocks for the critters. It contains everything you would need to start, including the classic Giants, Dragons, Demons, Orcs, Elves, and Goblins, and is a great resource for a beginning campaign. Because it's compatible with D&D 3.5, any of the older Monster Manuals will be useful as well, giving a huge pool of monsters to draw from. My only compaints are these: First off, the monster assortment is very basic, and something experienced players have seen before many times. There really was no way around this, though, because beginners will want/need them for their games. And second, the various monsters are lacking in detail compared to the 3.5 stuff, because they only get one page each [presumably to get more in the book]; as a result, ecologies and suggested uses in a campaign are vey abbreviated. Still, perhaps this will be addressed in future supplements. All in all, a worthy addition to the Pathfinder library. Also, as footnote - these games are suitable for beginning or experienced gamers of ALL ages, not merely teenagers [as suggested by the Chapters site].
