Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pride, Prejudice & me What can one say about Jane Austen that hasn't been said before? This woman wrote way beyond her time, she wrote with passion, with social consciousness and cleverness. She is one of today's most beloved authors. I first discovered her by reading Emma and fell instantly in love with a genre that I had never read before. I was transported to a different time and place and I knew one thing for sure, I wanted more. I quickly went through all of her novels and of course loved them all. Still today, P&P is my favorite, but in close second is S&S, followed by Persuasion. I love the other novels as well, but these are the ones I've reread the most. My husband still marvels at the fact that I must have read P&P at least 10 times, watched every Hollywood adaptation and watched the A&E version more times that I wish to share, but I can never seem to get enough. Every line is well thought out, the book is excellent, it makes you want to crawl into the character's lives and watch them from the sidelines as they walk about and make turns in gardens, or have tea in their sitting rooms. How many times I have surrendered to these books and let myself be one of the characters so beloved by all? If I had but one wish concerning Ms. Austen, it would have been that she could have lived a long, healthy and fulfilled life, and lived to write as many more novels as possible but as a renowned and published author of her time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Exquisite I could not put down this brilliant romance. Jane Austen is a true artist. Elizabeth Bennet is such a captivating woman, tough and clever. Mr. Darcy is possibly the most perfect man ever to be imagined. If you have not yet read this novel, you must. It has become a necessity to any female's bookshelf.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A New Reality It was through reading Pride and Prejudice that I truely began to apprecaite Jane Austen. The richness of the characters, that was only matched by the witty diologue between them- seemed to make her novel flow and come to life. It is in my opinion a book meant for females , as the ideas of romance and difficulty in displaying affection of a man- especially in those times might be lost to the male gender. It is also rich with a historical look into what might have been seen as socially acceptable. It was rare to write about the difficulties faced by woman and the status needed to be attained within marriage or birth. Jane Austen allows for this peek into history. There are many a novel that would accompany this book- a series I have been informed that branches from this novel but written much later. This makes me assume that though my particular views may be my own, the admiration for this stories , and their characters are shared by many.
