Penguin Random House Audio Publishing Group | June 12, 2012 | Audio Book (CD)

Rainbow Six is rated 4.625 out of 5 by 40.
At its heart is John Clark, the ex-Navy SEAL of Without Remorse, a master of secret operational missions, and newly named the head of an international task force dedicated to combating terrorism.  Clark is looking forward to sinking his teeth into a new mission, but the opportunities start coming faster than anyone could have expected; an incident at a Swiss bank, the kidnapping of an international trader in Germany, a  terrible raid on an amusement park in Spain.

Each episode seems separate, yet the timing disturbs Clark.  Is there a connection?  He tries to figure out where all this activity is heading, but there is no way to predict the real threat: a group of terrorists like none the world has ever encountered, a group so extreme that their success could literally mean the end of life on this earth as we know it.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interesting Settings, Intriguing and Well Written Story! Reading Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is similar to riding a rollercoster in an amusement park. The story starts off smoothly, introducing evidently the main characters of the story, explaining briefly the reason and the purpose of this international counter-terrorist unit supervised by an ex-CIA agent and Navy Seal named John Clark. Mr. Clancy trully knows how to captivate his readers especially in this book because of its complex plot and structure, and length. Throughout the story, sometimes you feel that the story is going to end for one specific character, but instead it gives you hope to continue reading to find out the consequences that will emerge. Regarding its complex plot, Tom Clancy provides different stories in parallel which, at first, don't seem interconnected, but starts to make sense as you read more and more. Rainbow Six is meant for the readers that loves to put the book aside and think about what could happen next. Tom Clancy transport the reader in a variety of settings throughout the world that are very detailled and talks a lot about different ideology related to a specific type of group or terrorist. I absolutely recommend this masterpiece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING After first playing the CPU game I decided I had to have the book when I saw it. I was not dissappointed. From front to back this book keeps the reader's interest and leaves you wanting to read more. I highly recommend this book to any Tom Clancy enthusiest and military buff alike. You will not be let down by this book. Must have!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was much better than the GAME, read it... From cover to cover this book keeps you wanting more. The character lead ups, the group devolopment, the devasting ways that Tom truely explains the cruel real world of terrorism. Give the bad guys a reason, and Rainbow is there to fix it. Riviting, and capturing. I picked this up as my first Clancy/Jack Ryan book, and I have all of them in the series. The video game just lets you see how to kill people, this book explains how to look into their eyes before you do, and the rules at which you can morally, and ethinically do so. Seriously, read it, darn good stuff. It'll leave you wanting more, just like it did to me....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still the best book I've ever read! Tom Clancy always comes out with the best books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. This book is no exception! From the first page I was sucked in and could not stop. This book has to be my all time favorite book. And I'm sure it will always be so. A must read for Clancy fans and others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rainbow Six, I Will Read Over & Over This book was one of the best I have ever put eyes to page for. I and my family agree with most of the reviews of this book. It of course has a storyline fluint with Tom Clancy's works such as The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and a few others I have yet to read. I found the way he dropped the readers right into a hijacking covering the first 10 pages and escilating from there from action to a complex puzzle to figure the outcome an excilent way to grab my interest. If he were ever to make a movie from the book I would be one of the first to be in line for it. I can't wait for him to bring my eyes another Clark and Chevez book to read to my family. As or the detail it was all it needed to be if somethings weren't accuret then oh well I don't care. A great book and my family and I would like to thank you Mr. Clancy please write another soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rainbow Six The best novel Clancy has written, and that is really saying something. Unlike the other John Kelly books, this one does not require an armed forces specialist to translate some of the parts. It is pure reading entertainment. I have read it at least 6 times, and never tire of it at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Political/Action Thriller 'Rainbow Six' by Tom Clancy is an extremely involving novel, using the omniscient point of view to allow us insight on all major and minor characters. We begin to fear for the lives of hostages who we get a more personal look at (remember the old man at Herr Ostermann's residence? I was cheering him on the whole way). If you are a Tom Clancy fan, enjoy political/action fiction, or have the ability to read, pick up this novel. It contains insight on the red-tape of government regulations and top-notch action sequences as well, don't miss out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST BOOK EVER This was the most amazing book I have ever read. It is thick, but when I finished it, I wished that it was longer. I couldn't, and wouldn;t put it down. The detail is classic Clancy, and is undeniably, his best novel to date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rainbow Six, it can't get much better! Rainbow Six was excellent! It combines the realistic adventures of an anti - terrrorism unit, and still packs a terrrific punch. The operations were carried out with unimaginable realsim and detail. The pre - mission planning was very tense! I read the whole night it was so exciting! The book starts with a highjacking, and just gets better! The story is centered around John Clark and Domingo Chavez. A group of extreme enviromentilits hatch a terrifiying plan to return the planet to it's natural state. John Clark forms a multi - national anti - terrorist team. After sucsesfully compleating four seemingly seperate terorrist incidents, the uncover the shocking truth, that could end human life on earth!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not his most original, but who cares? As mentioned by others, this book does not have the most original of plots. In fact, I would submit that this is the least original of all of Clancy's work thus far. The Rainbow troopers are reminiscent of those in Clear and Present Danger, and the Ebola epidemic was in his last book! But it doesn't matter. This is a highly entertaining book, and it's easy to cheer for the good guys and boo the bad guys. The action is well written, and the pace continues through the whole book. We have nifty gizmos, a good body count, and all those other thing we've come to expect from Tom Clancy. As a scientist, there were a few minor points to which I took exception in his scientific explanations, but then the military is Clancy's strong point, so I don't hold these minor quibbles against him. I heartily recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clancy at his best! One word for this masterpiece, Wow! From the moment I picked it up on the recommedation of my father I found I couldn't put it down. Rated 4 out of 5 by from MAKE A MOVIE!! As expressed in most reviews in this site, this was a great book. I have never read a Tom Clancy book before this one and have since read 10 others just because of "Rainbow Six". It is a must read and I hope Hollywood makes a movie of this books , like they have of other T.C's book ( Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games etc .)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent Read Some good action and a quick enjoyable read. I would not consider it among Clancy's best. Research could stand improving...RCAF GANDER? Our armed forces have not held that title for a while. Picky..but then Clancy prides himself on research and accuracy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Classic Clancy I was so looking forward to this book. Perhaps the anticipation deadened my perception. Definitely not one of Clancy's best, although a good read. Rainbow Six is not as technically detailed as most of his books, which some readers might appreciate. I didn't. You still don't want to miss this one though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Is this the end? I loved this book! Couldn't put it down. But, I have a feeling that this series is coming to an end. If so, I hope Clancy introduces another set to go along with Op-Center.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow... I have to admit the PC game got me hooked first. I didn't think the book would live up to my expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised at how my spare time would just disappear whenever I picked up the book...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good read While not one of Mr Clancy's best, it was well worth the read. He upholds his attention to detail and action from cover to cover philosophy but the plot was at times predictable. His ability to reveal facts not readily available keep him tops on my bookshelf.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stop browsing and BUY IT!! I found myself racing through this book just to see what would happen next. It's a great novel, full of action, don't miss out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More action less detail. I'm a new comer to Tom Clancy novel's and when I read Rainbow Six, I felt like I was reading a movie script and could easily picture in my mind all the sight's and sounds. It doesn't have the fine points of detail like some of his previous works. It was a pleasure to read it and although part of the plot was predictable, most of it wasn't so that it made a good read. I don't care what anyone says, there is no way you could predict the ending Clancy has written. There is action from beginning to end and at times was hard to put down. It is well worth a look.
Date published: 1999-09-23
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Predictable Contrary to the other reviewers' opinions, this is not one of Clancy's best. Its plot is quite predictable, and the writing is rather poor. With a good edit, this book could have been brought down to half its current size. If you consider yourself an environmentalist of any kind, you'll find the premise of the book rather silly. Look elsewhere for a better read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clancy at his best I have been an avid Tom Clancy reader for 3 years now. His newest release, Rainbow Six, is an unpredictable yet suspenseful tale about a world of terrorism and biological warfare. As a side note, I read all books including adventure, fiction, sci-fi and such. Rainbow Six is one of the best books that I have read (list includes Jurassic Park and Watership Down). I highly recommend this read to anyone who seeks adventure, action and unpredictable outcomes. Rainbow Six puts your imagination to the maximum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rainbow Six I have been an avid Tom Clancy fan for the past five years, and, with Rainbow Six, he has taken me to new heights of reading delights. I could not put the book down for bed, and read it through in 3 days. Clark rose to his reputation and kept me enthralled. You will not be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must read!! This book is one I'll never forget. From start to finish Rainbow six pulls the reader in and doesn't let go. As John Clark from "Without Remorse"(also a good book) leads Rainbow group around the world fighting terrorism a small group of powerful men plot the end of the human race as we know it. The plot of this book is fast, interesting and far from predicable. A real page turner!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Book This book was great, as a long time fan of Clancy novels, I have to say this was one of his best. Just the right blend of action and suspense. A book so good it spawned its own video game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet I loved Rainbow 6. It was very well written the plot was excellent and exciting. The characters were believable and had depth. I found only a few things wrong with this book. It focuses on team-2 and not team-1, it's a little long but that's okay, and some of the characters needed a little more focusing on their lives and pasts. All in all I highly reccomend this book.
Date published: 1999-05-31
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rainbow Six Did I like this novel? No! I can't even tell you why I didn't like this novel because I only have 50 to 100 words. I could talk about the ridiculous plot, or how the female characters are either the bad guys or the wives of the good guys, who do nothing but sit around the house making dinner and bearing their men's children. No, I did not like this book. Maybe the video game will be better!

About the Author

Best-selling author Tom Clancy was an English major at Baltimore’s Loyola College and he had a dream of writing a novel. As a Maryland insurance broker with a passion for naval history, his dream came true with his first effort, The Hunt for Red October. He has since written more than a dozen novels, which have a blend of realism and authenticity, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp suspense. Ten of the novels, including The Teeth of the Tiger feature the character Jack Ryan, former stock broker and CIA employee. Mr. Clancy’s nonfiction works include a series of guided tours of America’s warfighting assets, Submarine, Armored Cav, Fighter Wing, Marine, and Airborne. He lives in Maryland.
