Slave To Sensation is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 10.
THE FIRST PSY/CHANGELING NOVEL from the New York Times bestselling author of Shards of Hope, Shield of Winter, and Heart of Obsidian...
The book that Christine Feehan called "a must-read for all of my fans."
In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation”—the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was…Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion—and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities—or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation…

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyable! (In the event the Chapters-Indigo website deletes my rating, I mention here that I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars/leaves.) (This is the first book in Singh's Psy-Changelings series.) I enjoyed this one. For what it was (i.e. a light and 'fluffy' read within the paranormal romance genre) it was very well done. Good points: The world building was very well done. I particular enjoyed the contrast between the unemotional Psy and the Changelings. The characters were very well done for this genre and the plot was interesting enough to keep me reading steadily through to the end. Bad points: The speed with which the relationship between the two main characters was established was a wee bit jarring. I will say that this is not a failing on the part of this author per se, but rather a failing of the genre as a whole (IMHO) in that while romance novels have the stated central purpose of creating a relationship, this tends to be established rather quickly. I suspect this the result of both (i) the pressure of creating a story and establishing a relationship within a novel which is short enough to get people to pick it up, (ii) the competing pressure to include many 'steamy' scenes and the like. (But this is JMHO.) I will say that this speed was also evident in this novel which was a bit jarring. In addition, while I appreciated the fact that the reason for the 'info dump' or the telling rather than showing where the main male character in this novel was concerned was probably to flesh out this character by providing him with a backstory, this was another slightly jarring aspect. Other titles I recommend: -Angels' Blood, by Nalini Singh -Daughter of the Blood, by Anne Bishop -Santa Olivia, by Jacqueline Carey -Stormwalker, by Allyson James -Dragon Bound, by Thea Harrison -The Demon In Me, by Michelle Rowen -Cry Wolf, by Patricia Briggs (also see the prequel short story in 'On the Prowl')

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Official Slave To This Series!!! 3.75 Slave to Sensation (saying the name of the book with a French accent) was a hard read for me to get into. Not because it was a horrible book, I was finding it hard to connect to the characters. When I finally connected, it was epic, because this book was fun and unique and all types of sexy. There is a buffet of hotness in this book and I am up for all you can eat. Sascha Duncan is a Psy (nope not Psycho), Psy’s are living breathing androids, while they are human they carry no emotions, they feel absolutely nothing. They are cold as ice, except for Sascha. They year is 2079 and Sascha is close to breaking, she feels her time running out because her thoughts and feeling do match what a Psy should be. She wants, to laugh, she wants a man, she feels. With the intricate linkage that each Psy has to each other, it is a matter of time before someone notices that her icy façade is all just an act. Until an assignment with a Changeling leads to everything, she wants but cannot hope to have. There is also the fact that their races pretty much hate each other. Lucas Hunter is a Changeling (shifters both animal and human) he is the leader of his Leopard pack, and working with the Psy is the last thing he wants. Yet there is more beneath the surface, this so-called getting along, Lucas has a motive. Meeting Sascha Lucas realizes quickly that this one is different and he begins his hunt, the very thing he is good at. Well the story becomes one of intrigue and mystery and murder. As I said before really hard to get into it, but when I did “oh man” my pants caught on fire. Though Lucas and Sascha didn’t really light my fire, the other characters did and its for that very reason I will read the rest of the series. The world created was super awesome and the hot “Skin Privileges” was the highlight of the book for me. If only hot men lined up to rub me up and made me feel all safe and secure, I would take it and hum. So overall, I was impressed and I am officially dying to check out the rest of the series. I recommend this series for its originality and of course for the very hot men and women. 2010-060

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Introduction to a new world Slave to Sensation is my first Singh novel. It is an interesting world she has built with the various Changeling factions, the Humans and the Psy. Lucas Hunter is an amazing alpha male and Sascha, a damaged Psy, is more than strong enough for him. I enjoyed watching her morph into what she was meant to be - which wasn't damaged at all. Slave to Sensation is pretty steamy and has some mating similarities to Leigh's Breed books. This book has some sci-fi, some romance as well as some suspense. I did find there were some parts of the story that were left unexplained but I am hopeful that they were left that way on purpose to be explained later in the series in one of the other books. With that in mind I can't wait to sink my teeth into the next book in the series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slave to a New Series I shouldn't be surprised that I really liked this book. Afterall, I love Singh's Guild Hunter series (Angels Blood and Archangel's Kiss). I have to admit though, it was the covers of the books in this series that kind of turned me off. They just all look so cheesy - too HQ romance-y. Boy, am I glad I was able to overcome that prejudice! Sign me up for another series. I think I'm already addicted. Set on a futuristic, alternative Earth, the Psy-Changeling world is actually made up of three races - humans, Changelings, who are shapeshifters, and the Psy, beings that have developed their psychic powers to the extent that they are a completely different race. Over the course of multiple generations, the Psy have attempted to deny themselves all emotions, becoming cold but completely logical. Any Psy unable to fully lock away all emotion is sent for 'rehabilitation', i.e. they are basically lobotomized and left capable of only doing the most menial labour. All the Psy are psychically linked by an massive psychic web, much like the internet but made up of Psy minds. Because of their ability to make decisions based on logic rather than emotion, the Psy consider themselves superior to other races such as the Changelings. The changelings embrace their inner animal and allow themselves to fully feel their emotions. Sascha Duncan has always struggled with being a Psy, unable to stop herself from feeling emotions. While considered a cardinal - an Psy with extremely high psychic potential - she has never fully come into her powers, and has been led to believe she is flawed. When she launches a housing project with Lucas Hunter, a panther changeling, she realizes for the first time that there’s another world outside the Psy community, and that perhaps it’s acceptable to experience emotion. But with a serial killer on the loose, and changeling tempers flaring, how long will she have to feel? Singh has managed to create a fascinating and intriguing world. Although I found Sascha to be a little too self-sacrificing, she was an extremely likeable character. Singh does a wonderful job of portraying her struggle to understand emotions after a lifetime of trying to repress them. Lucas is a wonderful leading man. The Alpha of his pack, he leads without being over-the-top dominating. I loved the interaction between Lucas and Sascha. Sascha’s tentative attempts to learn how to stand up to a changeling alpha, and Lucas’ attempts to help Sascha overcome her fear of emotion make for great reading. The contrast between Sascha’s mental strength and physical frailty gives Singh plenty of opportunities to play with Lucas’ alpha instincts in a way that doesn’t diminish Sascha’s individual strengths. The tension between Sascha and Lucas kept me turning the pages furiously to the end. If you're a fan of paranormal romance and haven’t read Slave to Sensation then you’re missing out. Even if they’re not your usual fare, don’t let the science fiction flavour dissuade you, this book will not disappoint. 2010-062

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 1st book The world that Nalini Singh has created in her book grabs you and pulls you in. With humans, changelings, and the emotionless Psy you learn that within even an emotionless society, there is still good vs. evil, and that sometimes you have to risk everything you've ever believed in to gain something that is worth fighting for. Great character's, great story! With each book I have read in this series, they just keep getting better and better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't Believe I Found This Series! YES! I love this new series! I found it by fluke; I picked up The Magical Christmas Cat anthology to read the short story by Lora Leigh, however, I heard that Nalini Singh was good and eventually read hers. The story was awesome and I picked up this book. WOW! LOVE IT! I read a book from her series each day until it was done. It is one of the best series that I have read in a while. It is about a world that has three types of people: humans, psy and changelings (shapeshifters). Psy are those who abandoned all emotion and took a pledge of Silence. This silence breaks and most of the romances are between changelings and psy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Paranormal Romance Wow! I don't even know what to say about this book without making an understatement. Nalini Singh is an author I only heard about a few months ago, so I admit I was hesitant about reading this. However, after reading the excerpt she has on her website, I was instantly hooked. This book is about two races, the Psy and the Changelings, that basically live so close together and yet are worlds apart through their differences. Sascha, a cardinal Psy, is forced to work with the alpha of the Dark River leopard pack, Lucas. As a panther, Lucas is strong in his emotions while Sascha is forced to hide and deny any of her emotions under the rules of Silence. However, circumstances unite them together through the fight against a common enemy and they become closer than either expected. The author captivates her readers through the amazing characters, even those that are minor. After reading this book, I had to get the next in the series. So having read the first four, I can say that this series is without a doubt one of the best out there. I am eagerly awaiting the fifth book "Hostage to Pleasure" coming out in September and if you read this series I'm sure you will too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A+ This is a series that I was hesitant to start. It's very popular among bloggers, and I have yet to see anything bad said about any of the books. I have a bad track record when it comes to these kind of books. The uber popular hyped up books tend to not be my cup of tea. I usually end up disappointed and a little bit mad that I let myself get sucked into something that wasn't as good as promised by so many. I read Slave to sensation and I loved it. Sascha lives in a world where babies and children in her race are conditioned to not have emotions. They are taught to feel no happiness, anger, guilt, sadness, love or anything else. The Psy leaders decided to go ahead and do that to their young in order to stop members of their race from killing others. Occasionally the conditioning, or Silence, as they call it, does not work properly, so the Psy who feels anything or acts on emotion is taken into rehabilitation, where their minds are turned to mush. Sascha is struggling with herself because she has never felt like a 'normal' Psy. She knows that she is 'broken' and she hides it as best as she can. It gets harder and harder to do that because her mother is a powerful Psy who is a member of the council, and she would not think twice about turning in her daughter. Lucas is the Alpha pack leader of the Panthers. Several female changelings have been kidnapped and murdered an he knows that the killer is a Psy. He goes into a business venture with Sascha and her mother in hopes of getting some insider information about the Psy who is killing the females. It doesn't take long for Lucas fall for Sascha. He recognizes her as his mate, but she denies her feelings for him. As Psy she is not supposed to feel anything, but she knows that there is something happening to her. As Lucas asks for her help in finding the killer, she spends more and more time with him. She tries to hide that she is starting to have feelings for him, but he and his pack wont let her pretend. They encourage to touch, love and feel. I wont too much away, but Sascha is not a broken Psy. She is a special type of Spy that is rare and thought to have been extinct. I am so happy that I read this book. Visions of heat (book 2) is in my TBR, and I wont wait long before reading it. Nalini Singh created an interesting world full of passion and intrigue. I found myself reading as fast as I could so that I would find out what happened next. Then I had to force myself to slow down as I did not want the story to end. Without hesitation an A+.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't wait for next book in series This is the first book in the series. The author has created a mysterious world where Changelings, Humans, and Physics hold n uneasy peace. The balance of the world is shifting. Physics are on the verge of war with the changelings. Our hero an Changeling is surprised to find himself attracted to an unemotional Psy. I don't want to give away too much but I haven't been this excited about a new paranormal author so much since JR Ward and before that Robin Owens.

Animal Instincts

She was tall but there was nothing willowy about her. The woman’s body had more dangerous curves than should be legal on one of her race. In spite of the black pantsuit and stiff white shirt she wore like corporate armor, he could tell her breasts would overflow his hands. When she bent to examine something on the ground, he almost gave in to the urging of his beast. The curve of her hip was sensually female, her bottom a heart-shaped enticement.

Her head turned as if in response to his intent gaze, and despite the distance separating them, he could almost taste the earthy sensuality she’d tried to bury. Frowning at his own thoughts, he began to walk toward her. The Psy weren’t sensual. They were about as close to mechanical as you could get and still remain human. But there was something different about this one, something he wanted to sink his teeth into…;
