Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent book !! I got this book for my graduation, and it was worth reading. It's exactly how it is out there into the real world. I thought it was so interesting that I did my oral presentation in college about this wonderful book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely stunning All I can say is - absolutely stunning. Terrific book. She tells it like it is. I could relate to every chapter at one point or another in my life. I am ordering one for my teenage daughter - I think it will be something that she will be able to read and re-read and hopefully it may give her a few ideas to help her over a few hurdles in her life. I applaud Maria Shriver's writing ability and I am so glad that I found her book on the 'recommended books to read' shelf at my nearby library. I have already recommended this book to several of my friends and will continue to do so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A quick read with positive and realistic messages. I enjoyed this book for several reasons: it was an easy read, it was inspiring, and it did provide some insight that only an 'experienced' person could tell. The author covered many areas, including career, love, family, friendship, and spiritual advice. However, some of the advice and experience Ms. Shriver gives is very particular to her own upbringing (which she does admit). For example, how many of us would discover our life's passion by flying across the country with a presidential candidate (and family member) and seeing how his campaign unfolded? She shares several anecdotes that run along these lines. However, if you can incorporate the 'moral' of her stories into your own situation and life, you will enjoy the book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Real Winner! For those of you who love reading books like Simple Abundance or Living the Simple Life, you'll definitely enjoy this new book. It's a one-on-one, easy read with her own life experiences to back up the lessons she has learned. We may all know this, but we always need reminders. This book would make a great gift for those friends who appreciate these types of books on life! For any busy "superwoman" (and men, just because it's written by a woman doesn't mean the same lessons do not apply to you), this book is organized in such a way that you can quickly go to the lesson summary at the end of the chapter for a quick reminder, or read the whole chapter to fully understand the "Thing" she wished she knew before she went out in the Real World. I totally agreed with all the "Things" she listed, plus she lists more "things" to remember at the end of the book. A great book to keep referring to when you lose focus on life, also very upbe

From Our Editors

World-renowned journalist Maria Shriver shares her reflections, advice and hard earned lessons to graduates who are ready to leave school and enter the real world in Ten Things I Wish I'd Known Before I Went Into The Real World. This book is a wonderful, inspirational guide covering everything from pinpointing your passion to facing that terrifying question, what have I been put on this Earth to do? Drawing from her own experiences, Shriver discusses starting at the bottom, dealing with and learning from the boss from hell, carving out your own future and creating that necessary balance between career and family life. The advice in this book is helpful, thought- provoking and an attempt to spare readers from the painful lessons that Shriver learned the hard way.

Employee Review

In a book based on a speech she made, Shriver tells of her introduction to the workforce after finishing college. She knows exactly what she wants, goes for it and gets it -- surprise! She gets a bit of flack, but what can you expect with an attitude of "don't hate me because I'm rich, famous, beautiful, talented and I do have great hair." Finally, motherhood kicks in and a new person emerges. I skipped pages and didn't miss anything. You should skip it too.
