The Search is rated 4.1111 out of 5 by 9.
The #1 New York Times bestselling author presents a riveting novel of a canine Search and Rescue volunteer who fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life—a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

Several years ago, Fiona was the only survivor of the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life. But all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He’s an intensely private wood artist and the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy named Jaws.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands . . .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Read This was a great book but I thought the ending was a bit rushed. I was expecting something more dramatic. Fiona kept mentioning how her dogs would protect her and I thought that would be brought into action. So that was a bit disappointing. Being a dog lover, I naturally loved that aspect of the book. Otherwise I had a really hard time putting the book down and read it in 2 sittings. Would definitely recommend this book to all my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hated to put it down! Have to say this was one of the BEST books I've read in years! Little bit of murder mystery, little bit love story, lots of dogs - which I love!! All in all a definite THUMBS UP!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly What I Expected Generally speaking Nora Roberts books are fairly predictable but I can always count on them to entertain. While I am not going to find life's hidden meaning within a Roberts book I will find a few hours of blissful escape where I can guarantee I will be whisked away on a fairy tale romance that never fails to give me a happily ever after ending. Each protagonist in a Roberts novel seems to have the perfect balance of imperfections (both physical and emotional) and positive attributes so as to make him or her a believable character. In The Search Fiona was an engaging and relatable character who's passion for dogs and people alike made her even more endearing. There was never any question about the direction the romance between Fiona and Simon was taking but nevertheless it was great to go along for the ride and read as the romance bloomed. As one of her serial killer thrillers Roberts didn't disappoint. The plot was moderately suspenseful with just enough details fed to you page by page to keep you guessing. I think what most fans of Nora Roberts novels would agree on is that Roberts has a talent for writing female protagonists who each woman can see a bit of herself in. By writing relatable characters that women can make a personal connection with it gives them the ability to gets a taste of what it may just be like to captivate the often handsome, quirky, macho yet sensitive, "perfect" male protagonist of each novel. Overall The Search was a pleasurable and entertaining read that fans of Nora Roberts will happily add to their collection!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My first time Okay, I admit it - I was a Nora Roberts virgin. I know, I know, 191 books in print - 169 of them New York Times bestsellers and I hadn't read a one. So trying to be a well rounded reader, I picked up her latest - The Search - on a hot lazy Sunday afternoon in the hammock. Perfect choice! Fiona Bristow was the lucky one. Destined to be the 13th victim of the Red Scarf Killer serial killer, she fought back, escaped and he was captured, prosecuted and jailed. Fiona's fiancee was also a victim. She has retreated to Orcas Island where she works as a dog trainer and also leads a volunteer canine search and rescue group. Simon, a talented wood artist, is also looking for peace and quiet when he moves to Orcas. But his puppy Jaws needs professional help and he seeks out Fee. Well, sparks fly.... But danger is afoot as well. Although the killer is safely behind bars, someone seems to be on a mission to duplicate his work. Is Fiona in his sights? Roberts has created a strong female lead in Fiona. Simon is the rough and ready, not looking for a relationship kind of guy (who of course just happens to be really attractive) The interactions between the two are entertaining if not wholly believable. I got a little tired of hearing Simon say shut up. There's some steamy sex scenes between the two that did a steamy day justice. For the most part, the story is more on their budding relationship with the killer taking a back seat. Yes the suspense is there, but those looking for a high level thriller won't find it here. As a dog lover, what I did really like were the dog training scenes. Lots of good information, some I've tried - I've got one who likes to jump up on people - and it worked! I found the search and rescue operations and methodology just as interesting. Some readers may find this slows them down. Great dog quote from the book "One of the best things about dogs, to Fiona's mind, was their absolute joy in welcoming you home, whether you'd been gone for five minutes or five days. There lay unconditional and boundless love. 'And I really liked her descriptions of the setting she chose. A cute little cottage in the woods, with beaches nearby? Sign me up. Orcas Island is real. So I enjoyed my first foray into Roberts' territory - great escapist reading that didn't tax my brain. Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy Nora Roberts. It kind of reminded me a bit of Iris Johansen's writing. I can see why she's at the top of her game. Roberts also writes under the nom de plume of J.D. Robb and has a highly successful 30 book series - the futuristic In Death books.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Nora Roberts has once again hit a home run. This book gives you a look into the world of search dogs. It is wonderfully written book with lots of information for the reader to extract. The characters are, as always, fully developed and interesting. It will leave you thinking what you could do for the search and rescue programs in your area.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nora is my fav... ...and I have every. single. book. But this one did nothing for me. Something was missing. Moved a bit too slow and the middle dragged on for me. My daughter is really into dogs right now - so the jacket cover was a big hit around my house ;) Really..you can't go wrong with a Nora Roberts novel for the summer months but I prob won't re-read this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little bit of everything A little bit of romance, a little bit of mystery and suspense, and a whole lot about finding love with someone that you think is so wrong with you. And as a bonus, a few hints on training that unruly dog/man in your life. Another solid Nora Roberts novel and a terrific read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A book I will read more than once! I love Nora Roberts but this book has to be one of her best in ages. Strong characters. Solid plot. Rich background. A little romance but not too mushy. Interesting that kept me hooked until the end. Great chemistry and relationship development between the two primary characters with a solid supporting cast that enrich the storyline rather than take up space. Original and unique just like the earlier Nora Roberts' books that I fell in love with. The ending seemed a little anticlimatic or maybe I just would have liked to see the confrontation of Fiona with her killer and Simon with his violent ghosts stretched a little further. But beyond that this book doesn't disappoint.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very good, but... All in all it was a really good book, however I can't help but feel a bit disappointed at the ending. Given the nature of the crimes that were committed I would've thought Fiona would have been put through much worse, and it would've been a much more dramatic rescue by her lover, Simon, by even engaging her own dogs in her search. I thought for sure this is where it was going, but maybe I let my creativity get ahead of me. I would still recommend this book to my friends though!

Editorial Reviews

"Strong romantic suspense . . . The serial killer subplot is not new, as the copycat has been done before, but Nora Roberts makes it seem fresh with her incredible writing skill as she uses the Search and Rescue canines as key elements in the exciting story line. Readers will enjoy Ms. Roberts'' entertaining Puget Sound thriller."
-Midwest Book Review

"Roberts deftly packs the plot of her latest supremely satisfying novel with plenty of sexy romance, high-stakes suspense, clever dialogue and fascinating details about Search and Rescue dogs."
