In the latest from the #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon, Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law—including the ones sworn to uphold it.

Detective Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a senseless crime—an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. This is Peabody''s first case as primary detective—good thing she learned from the master.

But Peabody soon stumbles upon a trickier situation. After a hard workout, she''s all alone in the locker room when the gym door clatters open; and-while hiding inside a shower stall trying not to make a sound—she overhears two fellow officers, Garnet and Oberman, arguing. It doesn''t take long to realize they''re both crooked—guilty not just of corruption but of murder. Now Peabody, Eve, and Eve''s husband, Roarke, are trying to get the hard evidence they need to bring the dirty cops down—knowing all the while that the two are willing to kill to keep their secret.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jonesing for My Next Fix Okay, I'll admit it, JD Robb is my twice yearly crack, my fix, my guilty little pleasure. I love, LOVE this series. Quite frankly, I don't really think I need to review this newest offering, it's book 32 in the series, so either you're already a fan and will read it no matter what I say, or if you are new, why the heck are you starting with book 32? If you are new to the series, I would recommend you go and read at least the first two books, just so you can get the basic background and intros to most of the characters first. Then happy reading because after reading the first two you will probably be totally sucked into the series. In this latest offering Peabody takes the lead on a her first case, but it turns out to be a bit of red herring. The real case is what happens at the end of the day, when Peabody finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Accidentally overhearing a heated conversation, Peabody stumbles upon a dirty little secret that involves murder, greed, and dirty cops. Of course, her partner and Lieutenant, the formidable Eve Dallas, takes considerable offense when someone tarnishes the badge she holds dear and what ensues is a real page turner that will hold you captive until the last dirty cop falls. This installment had everything that makes this series so fun to read: Eve and Peabody banter; Eve incites and inflicts violence on the bad guys; Roarke is, well, Roarke (mmmm, Yum); McNab and Feeney chow down at Roarke's expense; Sommerset sneers at Eve...We also see some other fave characters like Mavis and Bella, Webster, Mira and even Crack. Sure these books are a bit formulaic, but who cares? I love getting to catch up with all my favourite characters and despite this being book 32, Robb manages to keep things fresh, time after time. 2011-013
