Synopsis:

Everyone loves a legend, but in Chicago, there's only room for one. Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) burns in the spotlight as a nightclub sensation. When she shoots her philandering husband, she lands on Chicago's famed murderess row, retains Chicago's slickest lawyer, Billy Flynn (Richard Gere), and is the center of of the town's most notorious murder case, only increasing her celebrity.

Roxie Hart (Reneé Zellweger), seduced by the city's promise of style and adventure, dreams of singing and dancing her way to stardom. When Roxie's abusive lover tries to walk out on her, she too ends up in prison. Billy recognizes a made-for-tabloids story and postpones Velma's court date to take on Roxie's case. Infamy is Roxie's ticket to stardom. Billy turns her crime of passion into celebrity headlines, and in this town, where murder is a form of entertainment, she becomes a bona fide star -- much to Velma's chagrin.

As Roxie fashions herself as America's sweetheart, Velma has more than a few surprises in store, and the two women stop at nothing to outdo each other in their obsessive pursuit of fame and celebrity. A new interpretation that takes the award-winning Broadway show into fresh and expansive cinematic realms, Chicago shifts adroitly from the reality of intrigue, rivalry and betrayal to spectacular fantasies of rhythm and dance, offering tongue-in-cheek commentary on the cult of celebrity and the scandalous lengths people will go to attain it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Musical Chicago is a great movie, especially if you enjoy musicals. I'm personally not a huge fan of them, but this one was different. The singing and dancing was excellent, especially since Renee Zelwegger had never sung before, and Catherine Zeta-Jones was pregnant. This movie's got everything you want, catchy songs, entertaining dancing, and even exciting murder cases. I would recommend this movie to anyone, unless of course you hate mucicals.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tripe Likely one of the worst movies made in the last 20 years, Chicago exhibits plenty that is wrong with hollywood today. Featuring the terrible acting by Richard Gere and a horrible soundtrack to boot, this is one to avoid. Nothing original in the least. Cabaret anyone?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They made a movie that everyone likes! The title is a quote from the opening address at the Oscars, where it picked up at least two awards(that I remember). I am a fan of movie musicals admittedly, but the acting was stunning, the costuming and lighting contrasts the gritty realism of prohibition era Chicago and Roxie's own burlesque vision of what life is supposed to be like, which is completely surreal. I and everyone I talked to who has seen it loved it completely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chicago has All That Jazz ! The movie Chicago is a must see for anyone who is a fan of the movie musical. There is something about the story & the songs that make you want to see this film over & over again. The humor, & intelligence of the script & the unique way the songs are intergrated into the story, is a guaranteed good time for any music lover. With an all star cast that includes Catherine Zeta-Jones in her Oscar winning role, to Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, Queen Latifa & John C. Rielly, this is one film definately not to be missed!
