Universal Home Video | August 23, 2005 | DVD

Erin Brockovich is rated 4 out of 5 by 1.
After concluding his non-linear trilogy with The Limey, director Steven Soderbergh shifts gears to give us a straight-ahead film that is engaging, hilarious and crowd-pleasing. Starring Julia Roberts in the title role, Erin Brockovich recounts the real-life events of a down-on-her-luck single-mom coming face-to-face with a powerful corporation that is poisoning a small town’s water supply. After bullying her way into a secretarial position at a law firm, frightening statistics come across her desk about Hinkley, Calif. and its inhabitants, many of who are plagued with perpetual cold-like symptoms or have developed cancerous tumours. In the tradition of Silkwood and Norma Rae, Brockovich prevails against the tyranny of greed — and has the audience cheering. Watch for the real Erin Brockovich as the diner waitress.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Shockingly Good i had no idea what i was getting into with this movie. I was expecting a feel good movie, but something that would almost seem unreal. Boy was i wrong. This movie is as real as it gets. You feel the pain, the emotion, its all on the screen. This movies, rises and falls with it's lead actress, Julia Roberts. Her charm makes her character, and the movie, likable. If your excepting that her charm is the only good thing about this performance though, your wrong, for the first time in her career, I saw some real acting, some real emotional impact. The supporting actors in this movie are great as well. Albert Finney and Aaron Eckhart in particular are great. Director Steven Soderbergh made a giant leap in his career with this movie. He went from making nice and sweet movies, to making this emotional impact full movie. I was shocked it was so good.
