Description

When the famed botanist Joseph Banks was a young man, he accompanied Captain James Cook, the legendary explorer, on Cook's first circumnavigational voyage. Banks, working with another botanist named Carl Daniel Solander, gathered more then 700 unknown plant species, which were subsequently drawn by Sydney Parkinson. Unfortunately, Banks' goal of publishing these sketches was not realized until almost 200 years after they were produced. This fascinating documentary, narrated by Robert Hughes, is the audiovisual fruition of Banks' dream--a unique and beautiful film which Banks would never have imagined those centuries ago.
