Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful I remember watching Julia Child's cooking show as a kid. I swear that Meryl Streep was totally channeling the famous chef. Excellent job! The movie was cute and funny and just delightful. Rent or Buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a chick flick. I saw this movie over the holidays with my wife. I thought that this was going to be a chick flick, but was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't. This is a somewhat biography of the great Julia Child - the woman who brought French cooking to America. Interspersed within is the sub-story of Julie Powell, a frustrated New York bureaucrat who wants to be a writer. "But you're not a writer until someone publishes you," she moans. So she gives herself a challenge: to cook her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in one year, and to blog about it. This was an enjoyable movie with great performances by Meryl Streep (Julia Child) and Stanley Tucci (Paul Child). For those who have seen Ms. Child on TV Meryl Streep does an absolutely amazing bit of character acting in becoming her. Ms. Powell's story slowed the movie down a bit, but overall quite enjoyable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous - Embrace Julia Child! In The Past: Julia Child (Meryl Streep) finds herself living in France, married to an American ambassador (a beautiful performance by Stanley Tucci) and without a job or interest to fill her days. Her passion for French cooking leads her to a French cooking class, which in turn, leads her to writing the massive "Mastering The Art Of French Cooking". Present Day: Julie Powell (Amy Adams) is frustrated with her life, working as a government employee; she seeks solace and satisfaction by challenging herself to work her way through every single recipe in Juia Child's Mastering The Art Of French Cooking. It is rare that a film lives up to all the hype, both by film critics and by family and friends, but this one does just that. Writer/Director Nora Ephron has created a sumptuous film that never stoops to cliches or mediocrity; she reintroduces her audience to the beauty of food and the beauty of the work of Julia Child. Highly recommended. Oh, and all the rumours about Meryl Streep deserving another Oscar Nomination? Absolutely true!
