Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hilarious Performances Carry Average Crime Thriller First off just a note for people, this movie was filmed in Ireland, and feature the majority of actors using heavy Irish accents, so if you don't like that I would not recommend it. For me though, I have been on a role with European movies lately. Shaun of the Dead was okay, Hot Fuzz was amazingly funny and In Bruges was a masterpiece. This movie, The Guard, is directed by the brother of the director of In Bruges, and features Brendan Gleason so I was excepting much of the same as In Bruges. For the most part that is what I got. the movie has an awesome screenplay, everyone of the main character has there moment to shine and is absolutely hysterical. Brendan Gleason stars as the easy going Irish cop. This has to be one of the funniest performances I have ever seen. Almost everything he says made be crack up and the way he acts around the other characters help them become funny as well. Don Cheadle stars opposite as the straight nosed FBI agent. Although it is not meant to be funny, he develops instant chemistry with Gleeson and the two are absolutely hilarious together. Mark Strong to me gives one of the better villain performances I have ever seen. He is so laid back, and he just loves anything unexpected that is thrown at him. If I didn't like Cheadle and Gleason so much, he might of turned into a bad guy I actually voted for. Beside the performances, the movie dosen't really offer anything new, and at times becomes boring because of it. Overall though, the hilarious performances by the top 3 actors make this a movie that I would recommend to check out.
