In this coming-of-age story, director Ridley Scott examines the relationships within a group of high school teens sailing the Caribbean on a year-long cruise. The crew is headed by a tough, fair minded skipper, Sheldon. And he must exercise his best judgment and control when their vessel encounters one of the deadliest of all seafaring terrors --- a storm of mythical proportions known as a "white squall."
A group of troubled young men sail half way around the world on a windjammer one summer in 1960. During their spectacular odyssey they learn life lessons from a stern captain, their teachers aboard ship, and nature herself when they encounter a freak storm known as a "white squall." Based on a true story.
