Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Big Nate in class by himself is a great book for kids 8+! Big Nate in class by himself, is a book about a boy named Nate who isn’t have a great day at school. But that school day soon turned around after Nate opened up a fortune cookie that said ‘‘Today you will surpass all others’’. Throughout the day things started to go the opposite. People that enjoy the books Diary of a wimpy kid, and Captain underpants will love the big Nate series because big Nate, captain underpants, and Diary of a wimpy kid have similar humor. The book has a little bit of inappropriate language. Personally I would recommend the book to kids over the age of 8 because of the inappropriate use of language. I think this is a really great book for kids age 8+. The book has some inappropriate language. Big nate in class by himself has really good illustration, with some funny comic strips.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good choice for a "High-Low" book - Getting boys to read. Very similar in style to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. This is a "High-Low" book i.e. the books interest level is set to a higher age than it's reading difficulty level. This makes it a terrific book for kids that are not really interested in reading, or not reading at their grade level. It has a big, easy to read font, the story is funny and the text is supported with lots of comical drawings. My 11-year old son enjoyed it but not as much as the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series..

Editorial Reviews

"Fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, or of Nate himself will savor P.S. 38''s most beleaguered hero. What carries the day are the zany illustrations and unflagging enthusiasm of Nate himself." (Bulletin of the Center for Children''s Books)
