Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for my 4 year old This book is great for my 4 year old who often feels so overwhelmed by his feelings that he goes straight to anger and lashing out. The book is told through the eyes of another kid and explains some of the things that might cause him to feel angry (being left out, not getting your way), what the anger feels like (helping teach him to identify when anger is what he is feeling), some suggestions for what to do when you feel angry and what not to do, and what you can do after you have been angry and could have expressed it more appropriately. It is really positive and parts of it remind me of affirmations, allowing the child to imagine him/herself being able to cool down and work through those feelings. It is super simple, making what can be overwhelming and confusing feelings feel more clear, and also provides a lot of room for discussion and deeper explanation. It is also great for my older child, who is much more rational and intellectual, to help him understand what is going on with the 4 year old when he is upset and emotional.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Toddler read My son is 4 years old and has a very short fuse...so I sought out this book in hopes of some resolution (he comes by it honestly)... When we first got it in the mail and I read it for the first time with my son I was disappointed because it was so simple, I actually kept it on the kitchen table with the shipping receipt with the intention of returning it...a few days passed when my son picked up the book and brought to me and asked me to read it again... He recognizes that he has a temper and he uses this to calm himself down, that in itself, pays for the book! Now my son resorts to the book when he feels he could have had a better day and we can sit and discuss the situations illustrated in the book at which time he makes suggestions for what he could do to change the outcome of these particular situations and makes associations to his life! Bottom line, the simplicity of this book is what makes it work and my son uses it as a positive resource!!! I will definately be purchasing more from The Learning to Get Along series!
