Barron's Educational Series | January 1, 2001 | Trade Paperback

I Miss You: A First Look At Death is rated 5 out of 5 by 1.
When a close friend or family member dies, it can be difficult for children to express their feelings. This book helps boys and girls understand that death is a natural complement to life, and that grief and a sense of loss are normal feelings for them to have following a loved one''s death. Titles in this sensitively presented series explore the dynamics of various relationships experienced by children of preschool through early school age. Kids are encouraged to understand personal feelings and social problems as a first step in dealing with them. Written by psychotherapist and counselor Pat Thomas, these books promote positive interaction among children, parents, and teachers. The story lines are simple and direct--easily accessible to younger children. There are full-color illustrations on every page.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great way to discuss a tricky topic! My four year old recently started asking very detailed questions about death, and had a lot of fear surrounding the topic. This book does a great job of explaining what death is and how people deal with it. The pictures are clear and are a great way for kids to understand what they're hearing. The afterlife is dealt with in a way that can be interpreted in a religious or secular way, depending on your family beliefs. I really appreciated that! If your child doesn't personally know and love someone who has passed away, I recommend using a paperclip to close pages 13 - 22, as the information might contribute to a child's fears more than allay them. Overall a very matter-of-fact, awesome book!
