Smaug certainly looked fast asleep, when Bilbo peeped once more from the entrance. He was just about to step out on to the floor when he caught a sudden thin ray of red from under the drooping lid of Smaug''s left eye. He was only pretending to sleep! He was watching the tunnel entrance!

Whisked from his comfortable hobbit-hole by Gandalf the wizard and a band of dwarves. Bilbo Baggins finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon...

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every Page Is A Gift I bought this book for my 6 years old supper reader. She examined all the beautiful illustrations on each page for about an hour when she first got the book. Now it is about 2 weeks, she is reading the book and enjoying the story, and still can't help but flip through the pages to look at the pictures again and again. The quality of the paper is excellent too. The book worth every penny we paid!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved every page! A pleasure to read, I reccommend reading The Hobbit before the Lord of the Rings, and though its style is different from that of the Lord of the Rings, it's better that way, it eases the reader into a series not meant for light reading. It satisfies all of my expectations. The gift edition of the novel is nice to hold, a good size in terms of width, font size, etc., covered with fabric, but I've noticed that finger scratches can easily take off the ink from the cover and the back. Other than that, I'd say that it's worth buying over the paperback editions.
