Rated 5 out of 5 by from EPIC LOVE THIS NEW SET. The black gate set has 6 minifigs, counting the eagle, most of these figs are exclusive. The new Gandalf, Aragorn, and the mouth of sauron are exclusive and really cool. The eagle is nice and so are the orcs. The set itself isn't too hard to build, has a nice number of pieces, and has really good playability. Definitely recommend this to everyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battle at the Black Gate Review! This set is fantastic and is sadly the last of the Lord of the Rings theme. The gate which is the highlight but may not be the main reason you buy the set is detailed. The figures Gandalf the White, Aragorn in Gondor armor, and Mouth of Sauron figure are exclusive in this set. We Also get two neat Mordor Orcs which are always fun to get more of. One of the great eagles is included in this set which is super cool and may be the cheapest way to pick it up in a set, unless the Battle of the Five armies set from the new Hobbit film ends up to be cheaper, is nice. If I had one complaint which seems to be reoccurring (whit good reason) is that the gate needs another tower to really have an accurate representation like in the movies but none the less it is very cool. I highly recommend this set for any avid Lego Lord of the Rings or anyone who wants to have some sort of cool castle type model. I hope this review is helpful and gave you enough information on this pretty cool set from this pretty cool theme from Lego.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For Frodo! So my brother's friend just got this set not too long ago, so I went over one time to check it out with the two of them, and it's not a bad set, though forty or fifty dollars is much more reasonable than sixty. However, With rare minifigures and most of all: a Great Eagle, the price is excused. THE BLACK GATE: It's almost like a miniature Isengard. It is built mostly with black pieces (who would have thought?), and is made up of the gate itself and a lookout tower. The tower has room for anyone and has a mini catapult on it. Between the gate and the tower, the set can open/fold in about three different ways, depending on what you're doing with it. It's a great bad guy fortress and is the same price as Weathertop, so the real question is what figures you prefer... MINIFIGURES: -Mordor Orcs: There are two in the set and the only ones that aren't completely exclusive. They are much the same as the Hunter Orcs from Attack of the Wargs, except the leg printing is different. One comes equipped with a Uruk helmet and sword, and another has a spear. Great for boosting up your evil army. -The Mouth of Sauron: So far, this is the closest we get to a LOTR Sauron figure. This guy is actually only seen in the extended version of The Return of the King, and is quickly killed by Aragorn. He is in black robes and cape, a steel helmet just a bit like the Witch-king's, and has a sword. He is, as the name implies, only the mouth of Sauron, so his head is literally just a strange, long-toothed mouth on a pale, wrinkled head with no other ordinary features. He also has a black horse to ride, the same as that of the Ringwraiths. A nasty villain for our fellowship. -Aragorn: This version is exclusive here. He has the same long brown hair and regular or angry face as before, but is now dressed in the outfit of the king of Gondor. He has blue and silver armor/robe printing, and a red cape. He has his sword, as well, of course. -Gandalf the White: We've seen Gandalf quite often, so its a relief to have this version of him. He now has white robes and cape, and the same smiling head as before, though his hair/beard piece now resembles that of Saruman, save for it is fully white. He has a white staff. -Great Eagle: Only seen in one other set (that is 250 bucks, so you do the math). He is his own mold and is kind of like the pteradactyl in that he has studs on his back for any figure to ride on him. His feet can connect to a LEGO surface or pick something up because of that. Normally, I would say he should have been a bit bigger, but since the Wargs are still the size they are, no reason to change only one of them. (Speaking of which, why on earth was one of these not in Attack of the Wargs? I mean, that's how Thorin and Bifur and all the rest get away in the first place. It's kind of like Boga the lizard missing in the Wheel Bike...it's a lost cause without them.) OVERALL: A good set, a little overpriced but with great, exclusive figures that outrun the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set! This set has a lot of great features like the gate has a lock and the tower has a small entrance door. Pros: exclusive Mouth of Sauron character, Aragorn in Gondor armor, Gandalf the white, Two new Mordor Orcs, a eagle, Nice details on the gate like spears on the backside. Cons: not enough Evil characters, I would have like a troll or a Fellbeast, Aragorn has a normal sword, not his legendary sword, Anduril, no pippin or merry in gondor and Rohan armor, need a second tower. Overall I would give this set a 4.8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME SET I have to agree with silver5575 [on page 4 at the moment] the set is kind if small and should have had another tower, and in the movie the towers were HUGE. Although I love the new print on the horse and the secret entrance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Battle at the Black Gate! When I saw this set on the LEGO store, I instantly wanted to buy it! Having my favorite battle location from the Lord of the Rings on my shelf was a dream come true. When I finally purchased the set and finished building it, I noticed it was smaller than it looked on the LEGO website. It was a minor issue, and it doesn't bother me too much anymore. The main reason to get this set is because of the minifigures. We get two simple Mordor orcs. We also get three exclusive minifigures: Gandalf the White, Aragorn (Royal Armor) and The Mouth of Sauron! Gandalf the White is much cooler than the dozen Gandalf the Greys I already have. The new Aragorn is obviously the best Aragorn out of the two. The Mouth of Sauron is my favourite LEGO Lotr minifigure by far!!! We also get an eagle, the cheapest way to get one, the other way being The Tower of Orthanc The Black Gate is a very detailed set. It has got many small pieces bumping up the price. Most of these pieces are actually used on the gate itself. The gate opens and closes very smoothly and even has a lock to close it. The tower at the side doesn't have much playability except an awkward opening flap at the bottom and a rotating catapult at top. It still looks really good! Overall, I think you should buy this set while you still can. It really looks good on a shelf and is arguably the best LEGO Lotr set for minifigures. The Black Gate may be small, but really is worth buying for collectors!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Black Gate Mini Yes, it looks cool. Yes, it has a few cool figures... But this is what bothers me most about Lego- At times it just seems more about the money. Many kits (most) seem to be lacking pieces that would finish and smooth the model off, and normally, that's okay. This is, after all, a toy that is designed for self-styling and elaboration. But The Black Gate is set up from the beginning to try and sell you another model. Look at the pics in the listing above, look in your instruction manual. It shows two kits combined to make what the one kit itself should have been. Posting pictures of a complete set that was Really two sets is salt in the wound of questionable purchase. The cost would have been negligible to trim and add the details that would make this a better representation of what they titled it as. Disappointing. While it is an interesting model,it just seems like a Lego marketing triumph. Chase minfigs, and a $60 price tag that's trying to coax you into another. Lego makes toys, but they don't play at business.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This Day we Fight! A very good set, but, it is missing some things to make it a great set. The main appeal of this set to me was the minifigures. You get 3 fantastic, exclusive minifigures, and two orcs which are always nice to have. Here are the minifigures. The Mouth of Sauron- One of the best Lord of the Rings minifigures ever made. Great printing and a FANTASTIC helmet. He looks very much like the movie version and is a stunning minifigure. He has black legs, a black torso, a black cape, a black sword, and his dark grey and black helmet. He only has one face, and you can only see his mouth because of his helmet. Aragorn- Another exclusive minifigure and one of the best Lord of the Rings minifigure ever made. He has grey, red, and blue legs, his Gondorian chestplate which has the White Tree of Gondor on it, a double colored cape, the outside black and the inside red, a sword, and a double sided face, a normal expression and an angry expression. Gandalf the White- Another exclusive minifigure, white legs, a white torso, white staff (is the same staff the Gandalf the Grey minifigure had but white) a white beard\hair piece, a white cape, and a double sided face, a happy expression, and a angry, yelling expression, though you can only see his eyes because of his head piece. Mordor Orc #1- Brown legs, a brown torso with tan arms, a flail (I think that is what it is called), and a helmet. Mordor Orc #2- Exactly the same as the first one, it just doesn't have a helmet and it has a sword instead of a flail. All of these minifigures have great back printing also. Now the gate, a great part to this set, and also a great disappointment. The MAIN disappointment is... WHERE IS THE SECOND TOWER? The Black Gate has TWO towers not ONE. In order to get the second tower you have to buy ANOTHER set... Disappointing. But the good news is it looks great. It is very realistic and looks very much like the movies. On the ONE tower that we get at the bottom (here comes my other complaint) is a door leading INTO Mordor. Now, there is only ONE way into Mordor (unless you count climbing over the mountains or the Cirith Ungol path), and that is the Black Gate. The Black Gate does not have a door on the tower. Not in the movie or book. Luckily it doesn't stand out very much, so you can't really notice. In the tower you get an armory with rocks to shoot out of the catapult that is on the top of the tower. The top of the tower has a torch, catapult, and very cool spikes. It looks like the tower described in the books and seen in the movies. The gate opens and closes very nicely, on the gate there is a torch, a bottle, a skull, and an empty barrel. On the back side there are two spears. There is also a function that allows you to lock the gate, which I really liked, it made it more realistic. Like I said in the beginning, the exterior is very cool. In this set you get a black horse like in the "Attack on Weathertop" set and a Great Eagle. With the complaints that I said, this is still a very good set. I recommend that you do not buy another one of this set unless you have extra money to spend or you don't have another LEGO set that you want to buy. With all things said I rate this a 8 out of 10. The second tower was my big complaint, if they added another tower and raised the price 10-15 dollars higher, then I would've rated it a 9 out of 10. That conclude the Battle at the Black Gate review, check out my other Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit reviews and thanks for reading :) !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Frodo needs time, we can give him that" To start off with I first saw pictures of this set in January and I knew I was going to get it, now the price for this set is a little steep but then it does come from one of the best films in all of time. Now to the Minifigures: Aragorn (Gondor Armour): Aragorns cape to start off with is very cool its black on the outside and red on the inside! Aragorn also has the tree of Gondro on his torso and has a double sided head he also has printing on his legs and a sword (a shield of Gondor would be nice) Aragorn is exclusive to this set. Gandalf the White: Gandalf has a rubbery hair piece which makes it easier to put over his cape, he also has a double sided face, he also has a white staff and has printing on his torso which is nice sarrophax (Gandalfs horse) would be nice, Gandalf the white is exclusive to this set. Mouth Of Sauron: Sauron is cool and just to let you know you only see him in the extended version of the movie just to let you know, his helmet is made of a rubbery thing and his face is mangled a part from the mouth, he also has printing on his legs and torso, he has a horse as well he is exclusive to this set. Mordor Orcs: You get two in this set one with a helmet which I dont like much and he has a mace, the other orc has a sword, I now have 4 mordor orcs now the others are from the orc forge. The Black Gate: The gate itself is nice and well detailed and it took some time but in the end it was worth it the tower has a nice catapult on it and the gate has a locking mechanism which was a nice touch it also has a hidden door which was nice also. Pros: Minifigs The Locking mechanism Horse Gandalf Sauron Aragorn Eagle Cons: Price is a bit high More minifigs such as a Gondor soldier, legolas, Gimli, One or two more Orcs and a Mountian troll Overall a very good set and is a must have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battle at the Black Gate A brilliant job Lego, one of the best sets I've ever built, and good value for money. However, for the money, I would have liked three more minifigures. A Gondorian soldier, another orc and an Olag-hai (a type of troll). Also, the tower should have been two studs wider. The build was enjoyable, quite challenging for people of my age, however for younger builders, it might be difficult for continually using brown and black, which can be hard when following instructions. The play experience is brilliant, except the tower door doesn't open very well. The minifigures are amazing, although there could be more for the price. Rubber is an excellent material for Gandalf's hair, it looks amazing, and Aragorn's cape was very good too, being two colours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Black Gate An amazing set, all the minifigures were nice the best of them was the mouth of sauron with his unique helmet and horse. Aragorn is also very detailed with the tree of gondor on his chest. But the best part of this set was how amazing the black gate looks when its finished from the outside. The only problem i had was there wasnt a whole lot of space for minifigures in the tower or on the gate's walls, but this is a secure and sturdy set i had no breaks. all in all a great set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Teeth of Mordor This set is amazing. I think for $60 they could have thrown in some gondor soldiers or an olog hia. But this is awesome!!!! Gate: A complex yet fun build. The lock feature and the battlements were cool. The detailing was brilliant and Lego couldn't have done any better. Tower: a bit small, but still pretty sick. Three stories tall, rather small but a quick, cool build. Includes a neat trapdoor feature and Mordor style architecture. The 1st floor is a dungeon or something. 2nd is a barrack type deal and 3rd (or roof i suppose) was a neat little spot for an orc or a catapult. Figures: Gandalf the White: 10/10 King Aragorn 15/10 Mouth of Sauron 10/20 Morgul orc#1 8/10 Morgul orc #2 9/10 Overall:OUTSTANDING!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Black Gate This is by far one of the best LoTR sets out there. A lot of exclusive minifigures, and the black gate is really cool, although it is not really size-based off the movie. The tower part of the wall is only a little taller then the gate itself, and the gate is a bit small. But, I'll go ahead and talk about the mini's ;) Mouth Of Sauron GREAT. He is the best figure in the set. He has an awesome helmet, realistic face, cape, black horse, and so many details on his torso. 5/5 Gandalf the White In my opinion he is the second best. He has a cool new beard/hair piece, and cool torso, the only thing he could've used is some kind of new staff piece, not the normal white one. 5/5 Aragorn (Gondor) Cool new exclusive Aragorn figure, all dressed in his Gondor armor. His cape is red on one side and black on the other. Standard sword, which i wish he had a new one for Anduril :( 4/5 Orc Defenders Standard Mordor Orc, one of them is wearing an Uruk-hai helmet, and the other is bald. The Helmeted one carries a spiked mace, and the bald one has an orc cleaver. 3/5 The Set: The set is fairly easy to build, the tower is really the only thing might be hard for some people. The gate is mirrored, you make one side, and the other side is the same. So most of the build is repetitive. The Gate has a lock, so you can close it up good. And the tower has a few rooms, plus a secret entrance, which is more for play then movie-based detail. The set also comes with a new giant eagle, which i think has abnormally large wings, but it's still cool. Gandalf can ride it, and it's talons can 'pick up' the bald orc, by placing the orc's head onto the space in his talons. I think this is a great set, and a must-have for any Lego collector. :D

Rated 4 out of 5 by from STILL A NICE PEACE TO HAVE !! Ye, this set is little bit difficult to describe.. It is so strange how they made it, but I still like it! The only problem here is, you need to buy it twice! But when you do so, there is ONE BIG FAT mistake and misunderstood.. Because when you connect 2 black gates together, you will get 2 GATES (seriously?).. Every fun of Lord of the rings knows, the gate is only ONE and its HUGE!! Pros: Exclusive figures, amazing eagle, nice details, some special features. Cons: Not big enough + 2 together does not make sense. Thanks for reading :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Black Gate I bought this set for myself, and I am really enjoyed building it, and playing with it. The set may look ugly, but it is really nice when built to the finish. It has huge gates with a lock (I really wanted one in Helm's Deep) It has a big tower, with a catapult on top that you can swivel around 360* degrees. I will first talk about the minifigures- Mouth of Sauron- The best minifigure in the set, it has an awesome helmet, and rides a black horse, which is the same one that is ridden by the wraiths. He has a black cape, amazing detail on his legs and body, and is certainly a reason why you should by this set. 5/5 Gandalf the White- This is the only white Gandalf so far in the series, he has a white beard, that is a lot like Saruman's, but completely white. At first glance, he looks a like him. He has a cloak and cape, and a plain white pants. 4/5 Aragorn- This one is not like the rest, he has a unique dressing, that bears the white tree of Minas Tirith. He has a cool cape that is red on the inside and black on the outside. The Two Mordor Orcs- These Orcs are like the many that serve Sauron and Saruman, one of them has a Uruk-Hai Helmet, and a mace, and the other one has no helmet and an amazing sword (I think LEGO shrunk the size of it from the other ones in Moria). They both have the same heads and clothing. The Great Eagle- This eagle one of the reasons I decided to buy this set, it has a giant wingspan (Bigger then it looks on the box). You can mount a figure (and if you try two) on it (preferably without a cape). Now onto the set- The Gate- This gate is fun to build, it's sturdy and neat. There is a latch on the back that can be used to lock the gate to stop people from coming in. On top are some accesories, which are a wooden barrel, a torch and a glass bottle. The Tower- It is three stories high, on the first is a special lever, which can be lifted to reveal a secret entrance from the outside, on the second is a storeroom for ammunition for the catapult, though you can customize it to be the orcs' barracks, or anything you want, and on the third is the top, where a catapult stands. Other Comments- On the instructions, it says that you can buy another one and attach it to the second, which I think is a pretty good idea, since it will look exactly like the one in the movie, and LEGO gets more money! If you buy the Tower or Orthanc, you can have another eagle, or you can use the gate as the entrance to Isengard is the Fortress of Barad-Dur isn't made. I hope you enjoyed my review, I reccomend this to you, and I really think that you should buy it. ~~~~SuperDoogyAway!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Why? Why does this set not come with a Black Rider and a fell beast? I think that overall, the set needs to be bigger and have more figures. Also, if you can make a sting for Frodo, why did you not make Anduril for Aragorn?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My master, Sauron the Great, bids thee welcome Finally, Lego have released a Mordor set: The Black Gate. This is my second favourite LOTR set released this summer. It has good play features and is quite detailed overall. Now onto the minifgures. Gandalf the White: My favourite LOTR figure that has been released so far. He is awesome. Gandalf has a white staff, new torso printing and his beard is the same as Saruman's except Gandalf's doesn't have a patch of grey. Aragorn: The new and exclusive Aragorn is extremely detailed. His torso is new and designed very well and his cape is similar to that of Lord Elrond's because the colours differ on the inside and the outside. Aragorn also comes with a sword. Mouth of Sauron: Although the Mouth is only seen in the extended edition, he is still and awesome minifigure in the set and my favourite antagonist of all the Lego LOTR figures. His legs, torso, head and helmet are new and exclusive to him. His head only has a large mouth with sharp teeth and an evil smile as well as wrinkles and lines hidden by his helmet. His helmet is very alike to his movie counterpart and I think Lego did a great job on him. Mordor Orcs: The first Orc is a regular Orc and unfortunately comes without the Orc hairpiece. He has a large sword. The second Orc has a flail and wears an Uruk-hai helmet. Next are the animals included in this set. Great Eagle: I am really fond of the Eagle and I like the printing on his wings and head. His legs cannot move and a minifigure can be placed on his back. However you should take off a figure's cape if it has one before placing it on the Eagle. Horse: This is the second animal included the set. It is the Mouth of Sauron's horse which he also rides in the movie. This horse is also used by the Nazgul in the set Attack on Weathertop. Now onto the Black Gate itself. The gate itself is very well detailed because of the spikes at the top serving as battlements and the bricks which protrude from the gate make it realistic. Attached to the gate is a tower which has four large spikes around it and at the top is a small catapult which comes with three rocks to shoot The tower also has space for an Orc. Also included on the tower is a torch. At the bottom of the tower is the secret entrance which is opened when a brick at the back is pushed. The interior is quite detailed. At the top of the gate behind the spikes is a small walkway/platform for the Orcs as well as a barrel, skull, bottle and torch. There is also a feature which opens and locks the gate when a round brick is turned. At either side of the gate is a wooden spear. At the bottom of the tower are two blades on the wall, a skull and the mechanism for opening the secret entrance. On the floor above are two rocks for the catapult at the top. Here is my conclusion Gandalf the White: 10000000/10 Aragorn: 10/10 Mouth of Sauron: 10/10 Mordor Orc 1: 9/10 Mordor Orc 2: 10/10 Pros: No stickers, awesome minifigures namely Gandalf, nice play features. Cons: Needed a bit more to it-another tower would have been nice along with two more Orcs with hairpieces and a Mountain Troll.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be so much better Such a shame! For the price this set should be double the size ie two towers either side with large gate in the middle and the cave troll with battle armour for opening the gate. Love the mouth of sauron and aragorn, but £60 for two great minifigs and a wee bit more is a bit steep.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Black Gate of Mordor We bought this set to complete the LOTR collection. All of this wave's sets seem to present something that would make the set desirable to purchase. In the case of the Black Gate, the minifigs, the eagle, and several elements of the gate itself is the strength of this set. Five minifigures are included. You get two orcs, one has a helmet, and one is bald. The weapons are a flail and a jagged sword. You get Gandalf the White, only appearing in this set so far. At first glance, he does indeed look like Saruman, but there are differences at a closer look. Aragorn is presented in this set in Minas Tirith attire. Finally, we get the White Tree of Gondor logo on a torso, and Lego did a great job here. Then, you get the Mouth of Sauron, who has several unique elements in the face, helmet, and the body design. By the way, he did only appear in the extended version, as I had to find one to watch the scene with him. The Mouth also has a horse, which is the same one used by the ringwraiths. I think all minifigures appear great, and again this will convince many to buy the set. An eagle also comes in the set. The wings are movable. A minifigure (preferably without cape) can be mounted on the eagle. The gate itself is made up mainly of blacks, browns, and greys. Some accessories are included such as weapons. The gate itself can be held shut by a latch. The set includes one tower featuring a secret entrance controlled by a lever. Mounted at the top is a catapult which can be rotated as desired. Along the gate itself, there is space to place several minifigures, especially if you move some of the accessories. I liked the design of the gate and tower, as it has some nice detail to it. One will note that only one tower is included in the set even though the black gate in the movie has flanking towers on both sides. Lego acknowledges this by showing how two of these sets can be combined in the instruction booklet. There are some advantages and disadvantages to this. If you buy two, you of course have more orcs and another horse and eagle, which is good. Of course you might not need an extra Gandalf, Aragorn, or Mouth. You also end up with two sets of opening gates rather than just one. Having two sets would also get you two extra rock formation builds that would not be used. I would venture to say that you could probably reconfigure the set to make one single large gate, but it will be up to you to figure how that could work. Personally, I think it would look better with the two flanking towers, so I am leaning towards getting another set. I would certainly recommend this to a Lord of the Rings Lego fan. At the very least, how would you turn down King Aragorn, Gandalf the White, and the Mouth of Sauron?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not enough: where is the other tower? I thoroughly enjoy LEGO LOTR and know essentially as much as Tolkien about it; that said - WHERE IS THE OTHER TOWER? How did this set get made with 1 tower? That aside; why are not there 2 towers? (Yes I said it twice because there should be 2 towers!) I truly would have preferred a correct set with 2 towers, and would have paid maybe $10 more for it at the most - this set is borderline overpriced (though nothing like the Jabba's SailBarge...). I did like that it comes with the mouth of Sauron, but with this being THE Black Gate there are practically no troops; an armored Troll would have been highly appropriate here also. LEGO: the reason why people like LOTR so much is because of the battles - please include MORE soldiers from both sides in the battle scenes (like 3 of each minimum)...getting a couple of Gondorian knights would have been wonderful. Perhaps also Pippen in Gondorian battle attire, and Gandalf's Shadowfax also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Set I like this set despite its size. Yes, it is smaller than you would hope for, but it isn't tiny. I like this set for a number of reasons, and I don't like it for a number of reasons. First, the good things. As always with LotR, the minifigures are great. Aragorn looks amazing in his blue Gondor upper-body peice. He has a double sided cape that looks really cool. The Mouth of Sauron is neat as well. His helmet has three spikees and covers his eyes. He has a black cape and a black sword. Gandalf the white is a nice addition, but he looks alot like Saruman. He could definitely pass as him. This was a bit disappointing, but I still like the figure alot. The Orcs are just OK. ccIt is nice to have (more) orcs, but the one with the helmet looks a bit akward without any other armor. I also like how the gate comes apart. If you take out the tower and set it all by itself, it looks alot like the tower of Orthnac. When I need an Orthnac, I just take out this tower, which is alot easier than buying a $200 Orthnac set. The bad things: First of all, there were alot of details in the tower and the gate that could have been taken out. The gate in particular had alot of extra details and it could have been designed in a much less expensive way. The gate is about five studs thick most of the time, which could have easily been changed. The gate is well-structure on the in between the front and the bck layers of bricks, which was entirely unnecessary. I would have settled for a thinner gate with less details in the tower and used the peices saved to build an extra tower. That is a smarter idea I think lego should have used when designing this set. Also, a smaller issue is that the door on the gate doesn't work well, and peices below the door often fly off when I open it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well...... This set was very......TINY! It's not really worth the money :(. Maybe like 30-40 dollars would be good. But think about it it's just a gate And you can't have fun with a little gate. If I was lego I would add another tower and the end and make the gate wider. Over all its ok and a good idea but need more towers and needs to be bigger

Rated 3 out of 5 by from the black gate. good but not great I will explain why I think this set is only a 3/5. The mini figures in this set are great and nicely detailed. The gate itself however. It looks good, but it is not movie accurate. The value and price for piece ratio is a 5/5 though. So this set does have its plus points. It will likely also be a good investment. It being the black gate. But for such a epic battle scene we are getting, a relatively small black gate. If they made it just a few inches wider and added the second tower for it to be more movie accurate. I would have gave it a 5/5. But it kinda just looks like half of the black gate from the movie. Yes you can buy two and make it two towers. But then you have two separate opening gates and not one big one. So it looks good two sets together. But still not accurate. I think they did a better job with orthanc. It looks like the tower from the movie. Although it is a nice Lego set and a good value. It is not however a epic black gate of mordor. Good set. But still a little disappointed that it has only one tower and its so small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Need two too make it really good! I thought the set was nicely designed, but the one thing that really made this set great was the minifigs that are included especially the eagle. The set was great, but if your looking for a set that replicates the scene from the movie I would recommend buying two of these. I bought two and designed my own gate that is roughly twice as big and then gives you towers on both sides just like in the movie. You can buy just one though and it still looks great. Overall I am very happy with the set.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from somethings missing Pros: new aragorn and mouth of sauron minifigs, wholesome details, and locking gate function. Also, the new great eagle element. Cons: only one tower. I would have thrown in a second tower and raised the price to $70, but the set is nice as is. a worthy set for lego lotr fans

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition to the LOTR series This set is detailed but a little bit small. Gate lock function is a nice feature and I am glad they added the Mouth of Sauron despite his unfamiliarity to many as he was only in the extended version. The set is also modular so you can buy multiple sets and combine the towers and the gates however you like. Also the set would look very good beside the Tower of Orthanc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "May the lord of the black land come forth!" I just got this set, along with the council of Elrond(which I already wrote a review for), and it is amazing! I'll go through each part of the set. The gate -both doors can open and close -A nob can be twisted, so the gate will be locked -A barrel, torch, and bottle lay on a platform near the top of the gates -some on the larger spikes on top of the gate are rubber -simple rock structure on the left side of the gate The tower -There is a 'secret' entrance on the lowest level of the tower -a scull and some bones litter the floor of the tower -The second floor has 2 rocks, for the catapult -The top has one last rock, the catapult itself(which is attached by 1 stud), and a torch Gandalf the white -NEW head, one smiling expression, one yelling expression -NEW Rubber conjoined hair/beard piece(warning: The hair sticks to the head, and can be tricky to take off) NEW body featuring a brown belt, and a silver cloak clasp Aragorn -double sided cape, one side black, one side red -NEW gondor armor torso and legs, featuring the white tree of gondor, a brown/silver belt, all on a dark blue over coat -same head, hair, and sword as original Aragorn Mouth of Sauron -definatly an interesting choice, considering he was only in the extended versions of the movie, and most kids will not have read the books -NEW helm piece, which I might add, is quite amazing -Very large mouth, with no eyes -black robes, with a grey belt, and silver highlights Morannan orcs -Same orcs as in the orc forge set -One has a uruk helmet and a flail, while the other has an old sword The eagle -NEW eagle, and one of the highlights of the set -crimson mold, with some darker feathers on the wings -yellow eyes - orange beak -WARNING: the legs to not, thus to not hold a minifigs in their talons(add a simple minifig back plate, like the one on star wars slave leia) All in all, this is a great set! To have the full gate, you need two of the sets. You build the first to the instructions, then build the tower of the second set to the instructions. You connect the tower of the second to the full model of the first. Then you use the extra gates as walls coming off of either side of the towers. Any who, the minifigs are great, and so is the set, so go, go buy it, right now!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Set, Fun Design This is a GREAT set! I love it. Comes with very detailed minifigures, including the exclusive King of Gondor Aragorn, as well as the Mouth of Sauron from the extended edition and some interesting looking orcs. I would say this is a very cool set, and one of the best price per piece ratios of any Lord of the Rings set, (59.99 for 656 pieces!), however because it is made of so many small detail pieces, the set still feels very small. I will probably be finding another of this set whenever I can (even without minifigures) just so that I can click them together and expand this. The set was built so that you can snap together two of them and make one big wall (it actually has a picture of this on the manual). Other than that little sad bit, I love the set! Really cool and fun to use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from THE BLACK GATE I think this set is very nice I like that you can get more and make it longer I have two myself. The bad thing is that the helmet for the mouth of Souron (sorry if I spelled the name wrong) the first one I got messed up and keeps falling off and now the second one is getting like to first one but it is still staying on pretty good.
