Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alice In Wonderland!! LOVE IT!!!! such an awwwwmazing remake of alice in wonderland, with a twist cuz its actually in real life in stead of cartoon anddddd its actually not really a remake but a sequel. I like the Idea, and i love the movie. would have been better in 3D tho :P

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Magical More reimagining than remake, in Burton's "Underland" Alice is returning after a 13 year absence to fulfill a prophecy, the cinematography is vivid and wonderfully imagined and is really a treat for the eyes. Burton reteams with Helena Bonham Carter (as the Red Queen) and Johnny Depp (as the wonderfully insane Mad Hatter) and these two are easily the best of the bunch (Depp is actually mesmerizing) but there is no weak link in the casting. Ending is predictable and and I know a few purists who were offended by the creative license of the story but its definitely worth the trip

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty Wonderful This movie is more like Alice RETURNS to Wonderland because as you find out very early in the movie, Alice has visited Wonderland once before. Now 19 years old, she returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen's reign of terror. Tim Burton's version of Wonderland is imaginatively created, with lots of colourful details, and practically breathes life. The creatures are generally live versions (CG) of Disney's previously animated version, and they're even odder and more fun to look at. I particularly loved the portrayal of the Chesire Cat in this film, and the way he snakes through midair like water feels very natural. Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter with usual gusto, as he brings much energy and quirkiness to such an oddball character. I suppose there is a mix of Willy Wonka and Jack Sparrow in there somewhere. Helena Bonham Carter as the big-headed (literally) Red Queen is fun, expressive, and extremely likable for such a short-tempered character. Mia Wasikowska is particularly noteworthy as Alice, which she plays with free-spirited pluckiness, charm, and beauty. Rent it or Buy it

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Treat for the Eyes... ...not so much for the brain. Visually stunning, with a very cool use of perspective throughout [watch Alice's height compared to the others around her], and well-acted, the film suffers from a lack of clear focus, particularly at the beginning and end. [I think it's meant to be an allegorical tale about the loss of childhood and the choices that entails, but I could be way off.] You've probably read the premise - Alice comes back after ten years to find things going downhill under the rule of the Red Queen, and must defend her friends and Wonderland itself from the encroaching evil - and the updating works quite well, preventing this from being "just another remake". The costumes are great, the CG well done, and the imagination on display in every frame, but I can't comment on the 3D, as I saw it on my TV. At any rate, I enjoyed it, particularly playing "guess the voice" with the animated characters, but unfortunately, the ending was weak, and dragged the rest of the film down. Still, if you're a Burton fan [like me], it's worth adding to your collection.
