Episodic feature made up of ten short films by ten international directors. Each director was asked to choose an aria from an operatic work, and create a short film inspired by the emotions and intensity of the music. Films include a meditation on vanity and narcissism with bodybuilders and naked women by Jean-Luc Godard, a double suicide in a bathtub by Franc Roddam, and a married couple deciding to meet up with their respective lovers at the same hotel by Julien Temple. Composers include Verdi, Lully, and Wagner.
This avante-garde, often comic, compilation film in music-video style features ten reknowned directors' short interpretations of arias from operas by Verdi, Puccini, Wagner and others. Includes nudity.
Directors were instructed not to have their films act out the narrative of the opera arias, but to create something different from the emotionality of the movies. Bridget Fonda made her film debut with "Aria."
