Bette Midler provided the template for many a pop performer, from singers like Madonna and actors like Sandra Bernhard. One of the best lessons the Divine Miss M. gives is in this film, Divine Madness. Midler burns up the celluloid in this concert film that ranges in material from bawdy rock and roll to, well, bawdy comedy. Still, there's a cleverness and wit underlying all the segments of this 1980 production.
