A tale of two wildcat oil drillers and their friendship that survives boom and bust through the years. It's the beginning of a long, amicable rivalry when Big John McMasters, a dashing charmer and his more stolid partner Square John Sand team up and strike it big in the adventurous new industry. Their competition eventually extends beyond the oil fields as McMasters succeeds in winning Betsy Bartlett, the girl they both love, away from Sands. Not one to let a wounded ego get in the way of what's right, San helps save his friend's marriage when McMasters' head is turned by a big city bombshell.

Description

Two rough-and-tumble wildcatters strike it rich in the dusty oil fields of Oklahoma. Not much of a story here but good star performances make it worthwhile. This was nominated for an Academy Award for Best (Black-and-White) Cinematography and Best Special Effects, so why bother with the colorized version?
