First-time filmmaker Wes Anderson directs this quirky yarn about three bumbling robbers from the Dallas area. Shortly after being released from a "rest home," Anthony joins his friends Dignan and Bob in a crime spree. After they successfully rob a bookstore, the trio decides to embark on a bigger job: cracking open a safe. This they attempt with the help of veteran crook Mr. Henry -- who runs a landscaping company as a cover. The group ultimately abandons the heist, but Dignan, filled with the spirit of criminal mischief, decides to finish the job alone. His efforts fail dismally, and land him in jail. In the meantime, Mr. Henry has some new plans to get some goods and cash for himself.

Description

Three harmless, though criminally aspiring, friends bungle their way through a series of inept misadventures in this debut feature from Austin auteur Anderson. Though they're not any good at what they're doing, their unwavering sense of honor and friendship helps them along.

Notes

A Boyle-Taylor Production. Color by Technicolor. Shown out of competition at the 1996 Rotterdam Film Festival. Released theatrically in New York City on February 21, 1996. Brooks, who made the project possible.
