Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 1

Starring Nicholas Brendon, Sarah Michelle Gellar

20th Century Fox Home Video | October 15, 2002 | DVD

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 1 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
What, like high school isn't scary enough? "Chosen One" Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) battles bloodsuckers between pop quizzes and term papers in the first 12 episodes of the show that's become a cult TV phenomenon. Viewers are introduced to the seemingly normal world of Sunnydale High, which actually has more than its fair share of dangerous beings, both alive and undead. We first meet the core members of Buffy's gang: "the Watcher" Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), computer genius Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and perennial goof Xander (Nicholas Brendon), as well as popular chick Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) and a few characters who become much more important in the following seasons ... need we say Angel (David Boreanaz)? What a difference five years makes -- you may be surprised at the lighter tone of these episodes compared to the doom-laden and dark episodes of the seasons to come. Slay on, sister.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sunnydale comes to DVD Joss Whedon, as any fan of Buffy knows, is a story-telling genius. But again, as any fan will tell you, season one is only the beginning of the Jossverse. This DVD lacks the extras that fans look for in DVD compilations: there's no real must-haves here. And there were certainly possible contenders: the pilot episode with the pre-Alyson Hannigan, Willow, commentary from the Slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and some new comments from the man himself. Most of what he says he's said before on VHS gift packs. Still, for any fan of Buffy (and if you're not a fan- you have no idea what you're missing) this is a great couple of discs. Problem is, Buffy fans are almost as voracious as vampires: we want more! Bring on season two!!
