Woody Allen's exploration of the relationships between three sisters and their men. Hannah, a former actress, believes herself to be happily married to accountant Elliot. She doesn't know that he has become infatuated with her sister, the beauteous Lee, who lives with the miserably unhappy artist Frederick. Hannah's ex-husband Mickey, a neurotic TV executive, spends most of his life contemplating his mortality. Holly, the third sister, struggles to overcome her cocaine addiction, to succeed as something, and to find Mr. Right. The story of these three sisters and their involvements, romantic and otherwise, take place over the course of three Thanksgivings, and is told in an episodic fashion, with "chapter" titles separating scenes.
A brilliant comedy examining the relationships and confusing romantic attachments of three sisters living in the urban village of New York. Academy Award Nominations: 7, including Best Picture, Best Director. Academy Awards: Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor--Michael Caine, Best Supporting Actress--Diane Wiest.
