Playwright Maxwell Anderson's version of the life of Joan of Arc. Joan, a simple French country girl, took up arms against the British after hearing voices from God. Ultimately she stood trial for heresy, and died by fire at the stake. Many years after her martyrdom, the Catholic Church made Joan a saint.
Ingrid Bergman gives a particularly sincere performance as Joan of Arc, the young peasant girl who led the forces of the French Army to conquest. Based on Maxwell Anderson's 1946 play, "Joan of Lorraine." Academy Award Nominations: 7, including Best Actress--Ingrid Bergman.
