Princess Mononoke is rated 4.6429 out of 5 by 14.

Destined to become a classic amongst animated films the world over, this brilliant work of anime from the vivid imagination of Hayao Miyazaki combines beautiful storytelling and extraordinary visual artistry. Princess Mononoke is the story of a young prince named Ashitaka (Billy Crudup), who must journey far to discover what’s driving the forest gods mad. What he discovers is that the environmental insensitivity of a group of humans led by Lady Eboshi (Minnie Driver) has scarred the land, turning the once harmonious spirit forest against humankind. Opposing the humans directly are a pack of giant wolves and a young girl named San (Claire Danes). The beauty of the film is a wonder to behold and the complex theme of man vs. nature makes this a truly amazing moviegoing experience. Parents should be warned that there are scenes of graphic violence that may not be suitable for young children.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Favourite Movie Every time I think of this movie, every time I watch it I just feel so...at peace. Princess Mononoke is a movie with so many hidden meanings and lessons, and each time i figure one out I feel closer to something, i don't know what but I do. It takes a very good movie to make you feel perfectly insinc, happy, curious, mysterious, give you the need to find something like the movie itself, and so many more things. And this movie does that! Highly recommended! If you don't love it...YOUR WIERD! AND INSAINLY INSAIN! Love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite movie...period I'll keep this short. Artwork and Animation is amazing, the backgrounds look like watercolor paintings. The music is epic. The characters are life like and can't be labeled in black or white as the "good guy" or the 'bad guy". The story is well thought up and the ending is one of the most intense climaxes of any film I've seen. The movie is balanced out. There's crazy action scenes that will keep you on the edge of you're seat but there's also very peaceful scenes of nature. I've owned this film since i was 13 and I've watched it over and over and over for close to 7 years and I will no doubt be watching it again. I'd strongly recommend buying this or at least renting it. Obviously not everyone will like it, but I've shown it to many of my friends who've never seen an anime or simply don't like them and I've never had anyone not be completely blown away. Well so much for keeping it short, I could just go on and on but I won't. If you're reading this you're probably interested in it all ready. I hope this review is help full, I dind't want to get into the story because I would probably end up writing a full summary with all the details and spoil it. As for the English dubbing, personally I think it is done rather well but movies are best in the language they were made for don't you agree?.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of the first anime films i ever watched One of the first anime films i ever watched. The animation is great. This is a story about a prince who gets infected with a disease while defending his home, and his ensuing search for a possible cure, which takes him far from home and into the wilds where giant beasts roam. I dont want to give too much away but theres some great action and story telling in this one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for me Princess Mononoke (or Mononoke Hime) is written and directed by the famous Hayao Miyazaki, however I did not find that it was his greatest works. I found it somewhat interesting, but the storyline did not appeal to me. I also did not like the ending at all. I had high expectations since this movie received such high ratings and I liked other works by Hayao Miyazaki. Princess Mononoke is a fantasy, adventure, and drama anime that is aimed for teenagers because of the bloody scenes. I found that the animals were drawn better, compared to the humans. The protagonist, Ashitaka, fights to save his village from the attack of the demon-god. However, when Ashitaka comes in contact with the demon-god, he becomes infected with a deadly curse. He leaves his village forever to search for a cure. He journeys into the forest that is inhabited by animal gods. He finds himself in the middle of a war between the village led by Lady Eboshi and forest gods. Who is Princes Mononoke? Will Ashitaka ever find a cure? Can gods die? 3/5

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hayao Miyazaki's best film EVER!!! Anime fans the world wide know Hayao Miyazaki(Kiki's Dillevery service) founder of Studio Ghibly as the master of animation. So when the announcement came that Miyazaki was going to step down and hand to reigns of Ghibly to another they where shocked. Miyazaki began work on one final project. He wanted this to be the film he would be rememberred by. The result was Mononoke-Hime(or Princess Mononoke). This is one of the best animated films i have ever seen. The character Design, the characters themselves and the plot are all top notch. And do to some very sad circummstanses(Miyazaki's intended succesor passed away) This will not be his last work. It does however remain his best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be a Kid Again The Princess Mononoke is a beautiful, beautiful tale of a young prince questing to find a cure to his curse, and to end the war between the animal gods and the humans. The animation is wonderful, the colours vibrant and alive, the tale whimsical and incredibly enwrapping; The Princess Mononoke will grab you and pull you in, and trust me when I say you won't struggle against it one bit. Kids and adults alike will fall in love with this film. A definite on your list of things to see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pre-Emptive but Justified Honestly, there's so much I could say about this film, simply because I feel so passionately about it. Rarely is a film - any film - so enjoyable, so fulfilling. If you ever have the opportunity to see this film, and you are not instantly a Miyazaki fan, I owe you a sincere apology. If you happen to work for Disney, please voice a plea on my behalf for more Miyazaki films. Nausicaa, Totoro, Kiki, Porco Rosso and more. Good dubbing and DVD definitely makes it worth waiting for. There is a market out there ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLE - Princess Mononoke is a hit! Man vs. Nature - and there's one young man who can stop this raging war. This is quite arguably the most PHENOMINAL anime film ever produced. This is one film that doesn't get old after a couple of views. The musical score is absolutely INCREDIBLE (It fits the theme well. It's virtually perfect.), and DVD only makes it sound better. It's been rated PG-13 by the MPAA (14A in Ontario. It includes graphic violence and mild language.). If you have someone who enjoys anime, I suggest this DVD to them. This is the best work that Hayao Miyazaki has ever done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Princess Mononoke A great epic tale, a fine example of what good Anime can be. I highly recomend this one to some getting into anime as one of the 'Required Viewings'. (the others being Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Perfect Blue). And YAY! they finaly descided to put the original Japanese soundtrack back into it for the DVD release.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Princess Mononoke I am a fan of Japanese Anime because of the detail and effort put into. This movie is an excellent example of the detailed animation put to work. The stoy line is very creative and well thought out. I enjoyed this movie because of it's originality and the characters unique personalities portrayed in this movie. I give Princess Mononoke a five out of five because it really captures it's audience and at the end it leaves you wanting more. It leaves everything to the imagination and like almost every movie has a wise moral to the whole story. I am sure anyone who loves a good story line will love this movie.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mononoke Rules Aside from the beautiful graphics, the famous voices and the melodious music... The story is one of triumph. Winning over evil and sticking to your values. This is a movie I highly recommend to all, though I must say it may be disturbing, to younger viewers, in some parts. Any fan of anime will be rewarded with a movie to watch time and again !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mononoke is a branch above in the anime forest. Expecting a toned down anime, more for young children, when I rented this movie I was pleasantly surprised. Like Akira, it had a strong message, and was willing to use a little (more than Akira btw) violence to get that message across. Without giving too much away, I want to say that this movie will keep your hopes shifting back and forth between characters that don't stereotypically portray good and evil.
