Description

The age-old theme of teenage violence and delinquency is given distinctive insight by the well-cast Dean-Wood-Mineo trio. Perhaps the best teen-age drama of the 1950'S. Academy Award Nominations: Best Supporting Actor--Sal Mineo, Best Supporting Actress--Natalie Wood, Best Motion Picture Story.

Notes

Shot in CinemaScope. Released theatrically in the USA October 1955. "Rebel Without a Cause" marked Dennis Hopper's film acting debut. The film was originally to be shot in black and white. But after Jack Warner viewed the dailies from the first three days of shooting, he decided the film should be in color. Warner Bros. Classics' video reissue of "Rebel without a Cause" includes additional footage, the letterbox trailer for the film, and two episodes of "Behind the Cameras," hosted by Gig Young, featuring interviews with the film's cast and producer. ("Behind the Cameras" was a segment of the 1955-1956 ABC Television Network series "Warner Brothers Presents.") One of the extra scenes includes the only film footage ever taken of James Dean wearing glasses. Also included is an alternate ending for the movie. Rated BBFC PG by the British Board of Film Classification.
