If you like your action flicks bold, intelligent and plausible, possessed of fierce action and superb pacing, then The 13th Warrior belongs on your shelf. Though the film`s performance at the box office was lukewarm, it`s as solidly effective as the best of Hollywood`s sword-wielding action-epics. Antonio Banderas is superb as an Arabian poet exiled from the courts for his dalliances with a princess. Forced into the role of diplomat, Banderas finds himself drafted into a company of Barbaric Vikings, who feel obliged to save the people of a far away land from a savage threat. The relationship is far from copacetic, but as the poet and Norsemen learn to trust and honour each other`s bravery, they form a bond that might just be strong enough to defeat the unimaginable. This pulse-pounding thrill-ride is something every action fan should see.
